Distracted driving?
The man was pushing a cart bringing home groceries. He got hit by a woman driving a Beamer. I hope the cops can check her cell phone records to see if she was texting or taking a call. Distracted driving is no excuse for killing someone.
Possibly distracted- visibility less of a factor
From photos I saw, there were white plastic grocery bags and a cart across the roadway. Those white bags help save lives for pedestrians in typical dark clothing, yet some cities and towns want to ban them. So, while it was a dark, gloomy day, the white bags would be something to see.

And if your mother had wheels instead of legs, she'd be a bicycle. Stop second-guessing something you know nothing about, Markkkkk. You do this all the time, and it's stupid and offensive. Just for once admit that you know next to nothing about the incident, and stop trying to leverage it into an argument in favor of some unconnected hobbyhorse issue of yours.

"It's a jump...to conclusions mat.." I'm sure the police have it covered, Inspector Clouseau. The driver actually waited for the cops. That's a huge plus in this day and age.
