Martha Coakley’s main opponent, Charlie BAKER, says he, too, is a friend to the LGBTQ community. But his actions prove otherwise.
In his first act as a potential governor of Massachusetts, Charlie Baker chose Karyn POLITO as his running mate for lieutenant governor. Polito has a long, documented record of active opposition to LGBTQ equality. Polito was a state representative during the height of the fight for marriage equality. During those years, she voted five times to strip same-sex couples of the freedom to marry. She was a vocal advocate for a public vote on marriage equality, arguing in an opinion editorial in the Telegram and Gazette that equal marriage would negatively “reweave the entire cultural fabric of our society.” She fought shoulder-to-shoulder with former governor MITT Romney, who made a national name for himself opposing marriage equality. Polito supported the continued implementation of a racist, anti-miscegenation law from 1913 that Romney revived in order to stop same-sex couples from other states from marrying in Massachusetts.

Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito
As Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito would chair a committee that picks judges. She voted 5 times in opposition to equl protection under the law and marriage equality. She also voted to amend to state constitution to discriminate against a minority.
But imagine if Charlie Baker couldn't serve and Polito became the governor. In my opinion, Baker selecting Polito is like McCain selecting Palin, the difference is McCain was throwing a Hail Mary, and Baker picked Polito from the start.
None of the Pooh-bahs of the Press....
... seem the least bit perturbed with Baker's knuckle-headed LG pick.
I agree.
The Globe endorsed Baker for Gov without the least bit of reservation about Polito as Lt. Gov or Gov.
