Roslindale getting sit-down Chinese restaurant

Seven Star Street Bistro, 153 Belgrade Ave., is seeking a beer and wine license for the dining room it's been building out the past few months.

The restaurant, which currently has just one table, wants to add a 16-seat dining room. It's seeking permission to stay open until midnight.

The Boston Licensing Board figures out tomorrow whether it has any beer and wine licenses to give out. In recent months, the board has not had any. Attorney Avi Liss said owner Christopher Lin is hoping to take advantage of a recently passed state law that expands the number of liquor licenses in Boston.

Liss explained the public need: "This is a necessity in that the public really wants it." However, Lin said he and his wife would open the new dining room even if they don't get a beer and wine license.

Lee Blasi, aide to City Councilor Tim McCarthy, supported the proposal. "The food is amazing," she said. The mayor's office also supported the proposal.

There's the bakery, but meal-type food? Blue Star?

Can get gyros and Baklava from almost every Greek owned pizza place. Stash's has a good selection.

Also the Primavera (down by the Haley School) has Greek dishes on the menu - and Brazilian too. And we also have Japanese/Korean, Mexican, Nigerian, Puerto Rican, and Dominican restaurants.

(And Indian! derp)

Sorry. But Primavera's has been closed (looks out of business) for over the past 6 weeks.
NO signs posted regarding re-opening.

How about a middle eastern place? Where can I get my shwarma fix?

Imagine something like Cafe Jaffa opening up in the old Rosi cafe space!

(Imagine *anything* opening up in the old Rosi cafe space!)

I think Cafe Beirut (in JP) delivers to Roslindale. They make some unbelievably good shwarma, and the falafel and kibbi are top-rate, too.

but that won't happen. I would rather that license go the underserved(no pun intended)not Rozzie or any other neighborhood with mutilple sit down options.

I've never been to Seven Stars, but I would love to go there as a sit down place.

Your overall point, however, is quite valid. There are parts of Boston who would appreciate the license more than we would out in Roslindale. Let's hope that the new licenses help to rectify this.

It's a valid point that some neighborhoods are restaurant deserts, and Rozi is not one of them. But the fix for this is expanding the number of licenses, not pitting one neighborhood against another, one restaurant against the rest. Beer and wine licenses should be just about as easy to get as a food license.

Hey - Seven Stars is on Belgrade Ave. It has FABULOUS take-out. They use Boar's Head meats - top shelf. It has a huge following, and a sit-down place would definitely be a plus.

BLUE STAR is a Greek place in the Square (the Village) on Corinth St. Big difference between the two places. Not that Blue Star isn't good.

If you want good Middle Eastern food, there is always Al-Wadi on the Parkway, and there is supposedly a new place on Washington St, up near Stimson and the Dedham line.

Hey Kids,

I think you are confusing Blue Star with Seven Stars. Blue Star is a Greek place in the Square. Seven Stars is on Belgrade.

The article says that, even in the Lins didn't get a license, they would open anyway. Yahoo -We'll bring our own stinking alcohol!! They have a huge following.

Now, for Middle Eastern food, don't forget about Al Wadi on the Parkway. Also, there is a new place on Washington St, near the Dedham line (not the Greek Market), which is supposed to be really good.

Just saying....Chow, I mean - Ciao!

I mentioned Blue Star only because somebody mentioned Greek food, and the Blue Star has (I think) a Greek owner.

As for the Middle Eastern place on Washington Street, that's Fairouz.

I've noticed that on my iThang, UHub comment threads are now indented so little that the nesting is nearly undecipherable. When the discussions are 'flattened' that way, it's much harder to see who is refering directly to the main article, and who is responding to a previous comment. This can make a real difference because we do tend to wander a bit around here.

Perhaps that's what happened in this case? Because on a big screen with well-indented comments, it's obvious that adam's comment was reffering to tetric, not the main article. There was no confusion between Blue Star and Seven Stars.
