Say cheese

Boston Police report they had some help arresting a Mattapan man for breaking and entering at a Back Bay apartment - from the tenant, who police say watched the guy ransack her Comm. Ave. apartment via a camera she had running.

Officers enroute were informed the resident of the apartment was watching the suspect inside her apartment via a live camera and giving a police dispatcher play by play actions of the suspect inside her home. The victim described the suspect as a black or Hispanic male, wearing a black knit hat, black scarf on his face, black jacket, blue jeans and holding a black & gray backpack, which he was placing her personal items including her Kindle into. As officers approached the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue & Fairfield Street they observed a male matching the victim’s description walking in a hurried manner. Officers exited their marked cruiser and followed the suspect on foot. Officers called out to the suspect to stop but he ignored the officer commands and continued walking in a hurried manner. Officers quickly caught up to male outside the Hynes Convention Center. After a brief encounter and a search of the suspect’s backpack, officers recovered the victim’s Kindle, a pry bar and a screwdriver.

Allen Bolden, 32, of Mattapan was charged with breaking and entering, possession of burglarious tools and receiving stolen property.

Innocent, etc.

The tenant helped the burglar break in?

Perhaps the tenant really DID help the man break in. Extreme Reality TV.

I'm trying to figure out how it could be differently worded and still make sense.

Maybe "With the help of the tenant, police arrested ..."

I think.

... better.

Same here, on first reading I thought it meant a tenant in the building helped the burglar break into the place...

Sad that it's necessary, but how awesome to nab the guy!

Watching someone ransack your house on live video has got to be an emotional experience. I'd be yelling and swearing at the screen....

That's the actual legal term, from MGL c. 266, § 49.

Or maybe the POS is lucky she wasn't home. This woman's smart and has a camera at her home. Who's to say she doesn't have a Mossberg in the closet as well.

You will find that a great many rapists these days are criminals

The cost of running these sorts of camera systems has dropped like a rock. DropCam Pro is probably still the overall winner for basic simplicity although you have to pay a monthly cloud storage fee if you wanna be able to go back and review non-live footage

There are super cheap moving pan/tilt Foscam cameras on Amazon for like $60 bucks that will send email alerts containing pictures or video whenever motion is detected. There are free android/ios apps for watching the stream remotely as well. The crappy thing about foscam is that sun and cloud movement will trip the motion detection so you get a lot of false positives. May still be worth it because you don't need a monthly fee.

Software like sighthound.com can work with just about any network camera and has really excellent "human being" detection algorithms that reduce the false positives even with cheap cameras. Requires a running computer at home though. I'm using it with some foscam units just to monitor a storage area.

Have much higher end cameras on the outside of the house but even those still can't do motion detection worth a damn. Weather, leaves and clouds all trigger the motion alert. Ended up turning off all the alerts and just recording everything 24x7. I won't ever get an alert but at least I'll have nice HD footage of the person molesting my houseplants or whatever
