Short circuit starts fire that displaces nine in East Boston

A second-floor short circuit started a two-alarm fire around 4:40 a.m. at 132 Bennington St., the Boston Fire Department reports.

One firefighter was injured and nine residents were displaced, the department says, adding damage was estimated at $350,000.

Did the building behind it, attached, also light up? Or were there three triple bunk beds in there?

If you look at it, it is really two large houses, connected together. Smoke and water from fire in one of the units would tend to make the other ones uninhabitable for a time, even if the fire didn't spread.

You could easily get three units in there - one on the second floor of the front building, the other two in the house - and not be overcrowded with nine people.

Why are there 9 people living in that location? I'm tired of seeing 9-10 people crammed into something that should have been four. I hope inspection services took some notes.
