Six-year-old dies in Dorchester on Thursday; his father kills himself today in front of police officers

Officers investigating the death of Patrick Marcelin's six-year-old son at 61 Devon St. in Dorchester on Thursday were unable to keep Marcelin from stabbing himself to death when they arrived at the apartment where he'd been staying, Boston Police report.

According to police, the boy was in cardiac arrest when first responders arrived at his home around 9:30 a.m., but that the exact cause of death remains under investigation. Then, police say:

Detectives learned that the boy had been staying with Marcelin, his father. The father was no longer present at the residence and detectives began searching for him in order to interview him in connection with their ongoing death investigation.

Last night, detectives learned from a family member that Marcelin had made statements expressing an intention to harm himself, and the search for his whereabouts intensified.

This afternoon, in the course if the investigation, detectives pinpointed Marcelin's location inside an apartment at 815 Morton Street. Detectives knocked on the door at about 4:30 PM. Marcelin answered the door with a kitchen knife in his hand and began to injure himself. Placing themselves in harm's way, detectives made heroic efforts to disarm him, took the knife away, and called for medical assistance. Marcelin was rushed to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead of his self inflicted injuries.

Police say they do not expect charges against anybody in the case.

Im no holy man but i will pray for the kid.
I hate to think of young minds filled with hurt, instead of the good stuff, the stuff they deserve.

..Not this stuff.

died first. The police were investigating the circumstances of the death, and the father then killed himself.

Awful story all around.

"Placing themselves in harm's way, detectives made heroic efforts to disarm him"

Could they be *any* more self-centered?

community activist will claim either that the police killed him or that they should have stopped him. Monday morning Tom Brady.

Could I say " this coward anon did nothing and let the man kill himself".

Going into a situation like that is stressfull for a human being to watch, and any human being who is at that scene helping out regardless of their job is a hero.

Here you have a guy who clearly doesn't want to live anymore. He probably wouldn't have cared if he hurt one of the cops bc he knew if he did he probably would have had a fatal wound. So yes, the cops were in harm's way.

Really shameless of Adam, who takes a "stand" on banning so-called racist comments but freely allows our brave Detectives to be maligned, at will. Any word on what color the Detectives were in this case? I know we have a number of outstanding white, black, Latino, Native American and Asian Detectives in this city. May we get some reportage on the races of the "self-centered" (11 likes) Detectives who did a great job in this case?

Did you just imply that calling police self-centered is the same as racism? Or "racism", as you seem to think of it?

I have not had enough coffee for that level of idiocy.

Seriously, Officer Cartman, you just completely validated the "self-centered" statement in one ridiculously facist whine.
