Wait for the car to return, ticket the owner for littering.

seems like a good use of BTD resources.

It's what we pay them to do,,,,,,,

cars at meters about to run out of time, I don't see a problem with that.

Meter maids stalking expiring meters have to wait only a few minutes; they don't stare at meters with two hours of time left on them. The typical space saver user goes off to work for 8-10 hours and you don't know when they left.

If you think having a BTD officer stand around for hours waiting for one person to reclaim a saved space is an effective use of resources, I'm going to guess you're not the managerial type.

How do we know that is a space saver and not an "abandoned bucket with unknown contents"?

We should blow it up....just to be safe.

Tell the yuppie who took the picture to mind their own business!

and one selfish jerk is reserving a parking space for themselves that should be available to all residents, then it is their business.

Oh HELL no. Someone needs to put a note on those and move them.

Thats just what we need- more passive aggressive notes in southie...

Savers NOT for snow but for gutting of house according to a poster on Caught in Southie

The homeowner should have gotten a permit for the dumpster, and that would have resulted in no-parking signs. I do see two rows of duct tape on the light post, so it's possible there is one there...

No that's an abutters meeting notice that has been there since early February. There is a building permit in the window of the house, but no parking ones.

We need to change the city's laws:

Although vandalism shall remain illegal in almost all cases, teenagers will be permitted to egg this person's car.

Edit: this is a joke. Please don't egg this person's car. They do deserve a fine and a stern lecture from an unamused public employee.

Tell me again how space savers are the just reward for the hard work of removing the snow from the parking space, and not just a manifestation of the prevailing right wing/Libertarian ideology of "I got mine, screw you!"

Not sure what makes you think that the idea that one is entitled to a subsidized space is a "libertarian" idea. A libertarian idea would be for the market to build, maintain, sell/rent, pay market rate for, etc... the spaces.

Also, I think we'd find that this behavior crosses all political boundaries.

Let the usual South Boston bashing continue! It's a season ending, last shot opportunity. This was set up.
Calm down everyone.

I can assure you it's not phony. Why would you think it is?

up

in the sense that somebody put it out because it snowed, even though all you airheads who are obsessed with this type of behavior wish it were true. Just because somebody submits a picture doesn't mean it's true. If you went by today you would see it was for a dumpster pickup. Get over it and let's not obsess over this until next winter.

This is not necessarily phony. People put space savers out REGARDLESS of whether it snows or not. I see it in East Boston all summer long. This one is just funny because of the light snowfall we had this morning. But there are neighborhoods where this is a regular thing year round. Unfortunate but true.

Sure, it is the case of a mistaken identity in that the savers weren't put out for the snow, but it's not an illogical conclusion to reach and the fact that it is so plausible ought to indicate to everyone how ridiculous the space-saving culture in Southie is.

Regardless, the fact that this contractor operated outside the bounds of the law by not acquiring a permit for the dumpster is a more significant offense.

of it, because there is no dumpster there now. Can't say I've seen many dumpsters go in and out in less than a day like that in this neighborhood.

should not perpetuate this bullshit because it makes it more difficult for the rest of us Yuppies who want to get along and live amicably with our neighbors.

up

And your reasoning that it must've been yuppies is perfectly sound, yes?

up

It could have been a Newbie. Them and Yuppies are the only ones obsessed with this, evident by all the complaints here.
