So what would you do with that old Tunnel Administration building in the North End?

The state plans to solicit bids from developers who want to fill the vacant building on North Street (the one with the cupola and with the old turnpike booth out front):

The building located at 128 North Street in the City of Boston in the North End is comprised of slightly more than 6500 total square feet on 4 levels including a basement. The building is just behind North Street Park and bounded by the exit of the Sumner Tunnel, Cross Street and North Street. This historic structure is one of few examples of the Georgian Revival style in the North End and is located near the North End Park of the Rose Kennedy Greenway.

Also up for grabs: 1,500 square feet of land with frontage on Hanover Street and Cross Street, part of which is now leased to Mother Anna's for patio space.

They were trying to build a YMCA over the on-ramp/off-ramp in front of Haymarket. It became too expensive. Lease the building to them.

Or make it a museum. Its a beautiful building on the outside.

That building's attached to the new North Bennet Street School. Let them have it and that gorgeous facade.

That's a beautiful building. The north end doesn't need more luxury condos. It needs an upper school - perhaps a satellite school of Boston Latin! There is no nearby 9-12 school. This could be the beginning of something great.

Satellite of Boston Latin would make it an entrance exam school , so nearby really wouldn't apply. Plus, it would detract from the tradition and ambiance of Ave. Louis Pasteur.

Which should really just drop the "Bennett" part after moving its campus to the North Street Boston Printing Press HQ in 2013, is interested in acquiring the property, and will be presenting on this to the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council on Monday at 7 p.m. (BCYF Nazzaro Center - still on North Bennett Street).

Open an Irish pub on the first floor called "Sumner O'Callahan's" of course.

Offer a "mile long" hot dog?

C'mon... lots of groaners to be had on this one...
