State Rep. Marc Lombardo Blames Al Sharpton

Kyle Clauss at blogs.lowellsun writes, Rep. Marc Lombardo "stands behind the sentiment of his tweet, if not his choice of words."

To "clarify" his statement with a different choice of words and a different meaning Rep. Lombardo calls Al Sharpton “a person who benefits and profits off creating deep racial divides," and claims "Al Sharpton is doing far more harm than good in this country.”

Well I suppose that's a step back from claiming Sharpton wants NYPD officers dead but I wouldn't equate these statements as being of the same sentiment.

Moreover, both statements seem wrong-minded, unmeasured and offensive. It is offensive for Lombardo to project on Sharpton a desire to see NYC police officers murdered. Who does that? Secondly, how much contempt does Lombardo have for Sharpton to dehumanize him as 'trash' who would wish others dead? Marc Lombardo might want to explore his anger issues with Al Sharpton.

Al Sharpton is asking for policy changes on behalf of the families of Mike Brown, Eric Garner, John Crawford, Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin and others, changes in policy that now lead to injustice in law enforcement and the courts such as policing practices, laws of self-defense, and District Attorney/police/grand jury conflict of interest in police excessive use of force cases.

Marc Lombardo doesn't seem to understand that the basis of Al Sharpton's advocacy is a legitimate issue, if not in his eyes, in the eyes of ten of thousands of Americans and thousands of Bostonians who have protested in public to demand reform.

So where did Marc Lombardo get the idea that Al Sharpton wanted NYC policemen killed? We'd have to ask him but Media Matters published this: "Fox & Friends Airs Misleading Footage To Suggest Al Sharpton Led Protesters Calling For "Dead Cops: Fox's Clayton Morris: Al Sharpton Is "Calling To Kill Cops"

As critical as Lombardo is of Sharpton with respect to Sharpton's advocacy and the 'racial divide,' I don't think we'll see Marc Lombardo make any personal and professional initiatives to span the divide but I hope he proves me wrong.
