Truck turns Fields Corner into Gridlocked Corner
By adamg on Thu, 09/18/2014 - 1:34pm
From the "How do they even do that?" department comes this picture, by Fields Corner Main Street, of a truck whose driver tried but failed to make a U-turn at a major intersection shortly after 1 p.m.

Wow
*face palm*
Now we know
where Hugie Rowland drives in the off season.
T bridge over both Adams
T bridge over both Adams street and Dorchester ave.....
You'd know better than most of us
I mean, why would the driver of a truck that big even try to hang a u-ey on a street like Dot Ave.
Check out Street View
If the driver went down Dot Ave, he'd end up at the T bridge.
Ditto for heading down Adams.
His only reasonable choice would be trying a very tight right a block down Dot Ave, before the bridge, squeezing down Charles, and out onto Geneva to try again. (Or, down Adams to a more generous left on Leonard and out to Freeport.
Or he could have backed up
Granted, that would have not been an easy move, and would have involved a second (or third or fourth) person, but that street is too tight for that turn, and I have no clue about driving such a vehicle.
Back up to where, though?
Seems like tricky choices all the way in - all small roads past Freeport St.
Adams Street
Swing to the right, then when you are far enough back, take a left onto Dorchester Avenue. Stop at the auto parts store and ask them what to do.
Or conversely, right on Charles, right on Geneva, go to Bowdoin, then right again to Hancock, right again, which will get you to Freeport Ave. Admittedly, I could only do that using google maps, but backing up to Adams Street, if you had the manpower, would be easier than blocking Dot Ave.
EDIT- I'm assuming the truck was going southbound.
Our truck driving screw-ups
Our truck driving screw-ups are WORLD CLASS!
Same guy who tried to turn
Same guy who tried to turn left onto Washington from School St downtown a few weeks ago?
How does removing it even work?
Do you have to remove the trailer from the cab and then have the cab circle the block and reattach the trailer from another angle to pull the trailer back into position?
I'm sure Ms. Know-it-all has
I'm sure Ms. Know-it-all has the answer.
Ha ha ha
People who know things are losers, amirite?
Oh you poor man
It must be tough to have so little self worth that other people knowing things and sharing them makes your fee fees hurt so hard!
Oh, and a woman is smarter than you? Oh ouch, feefees hurted! How unfair of her!
Leave the burned out carcass
Leave the burned out carcass of the truck and trailer in the bike lane as a warning to others
You can spin a trailer 360*
You can spin a trailer 360* around it's rear axles no problemos , as long as your circle is unobstructed. You don't have to unhook the horse.
More Training
Someone put this guy in an armchair to keep the rest of us safe:

Start with this

Nope
As a truck driver with some experience in the city of Boston, let me assure you that GPS devices do not work well here. The number of one way, low clearance, truck restricted, etc., etc., etc., streets just don't fit into any available database. Let alone low hanging trees, wires and the like.
Adams
Straight down Adams was their best bet. Charles is too narrow and full of cars. Never would have been able to fit down Leonard. Once you get past the school the street gets very narrow, with parking on both sides.
Is there such a thing as GPS for big trucks? (Just saw anon Garmin link!) Gold mine! Although Storrow Drive would get pretty boring.
UTurn?
A U turn? Really? Idiot
