ET
Why... when i look at the picture, I am waiting for ET and Elliot to fly over on his bike?
Super moon + summer polar vortex + magnetic field weakening
= ?
Uhhh?
Yahtzee?
What a
What a great photo of the moon. Easy to think of ET et al. as the moon looks so close. Love it!
Ugh
I can't wait for the "super moon" thing to die. It's just a full Moon. A full Moon is pretty and all, but every full Moon looks essentially the same — as far as anyone would be able to tell, it's the same size, same brightness. Just because someone (an astrologer), invented the "super" moniker, the media has glommed on to another example of Fark.
party pooper.....
;)
Agreed - that is some seriously misguided party pooping
The blog you linked to gets all sorts of simple astronomical stuff wrong, refs Neil "I'm the only Barnum allowed here" deGrasse Tyson, disregards how humans see(*), and generally poops on the "get outside and look at the sky" party.
(*) visual perception favors differences of area over distance. Ie, a moon of 15% greater apparent diameter than average 'looks' nearly one-third larger and brighter - easily noticed by even casual observers.
You know what - every astronomical event you will likely see in your lifetime is ridiculously common on a cosmic scale, and mostly an accident of where you happen to be at that particular moment. So what? The universe is beautiful, and anything which encourages people to look up and appreciate it is a good thing, imo.
