Amtrak service halted in Mansfield as Dorchester man wanted for shoplifting makes vain attempt to escape police

Mansfield Police report arresting a Dorchester man on shoplifting charges Friday afternoon after a foot chase that started at the LL Bean store in the Mansfield Crossing Mall, went down the Northeast Corridor and then back into town before ending in the back room of a sub shop.

Police say David Wang, 24, of Snowden Way, forced the shutdown of Amtrak service for about 20 minutes as officers searched the tracks for him in vain. Then:

Officers encountered the subject across the tracks behind Hub Folding Box on Norfolk Rd where he once again fled back towards the Mall. The subject ran through retail establishments and through Capriotti's Sandwich Shop to the back room. The subject was taken into custody as he attempted to flee from the rear of the store back towards the train tracks.

Police add an accomplice did manage to escape their clutches.

In addition to shoplifting, Wang also faces charges of trespassing on Amtrak property, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.

Innocent, etc.

H/t Tristan.

Who owns the rails? Does Amtrak own the rails or does Mass DOT or the MBTA own the rails? Same goes for the stations which one of the above owns South Station and Back Bay and 128 stations.

The state owns the tracks, though Amtrak dispatches them. The state also owns and manages South Station and Back Bay. (In fact, a few months ago, Amtrak got fed up with the awful train exhaust in Back Bay, and closed the ticket office for the safety of their employees.)

I'm not sure about Route 128 station. I think it's managed by Amtrak.
