Affordable housing or a velodrome?

"Velodrome" - No Boston Olympics Video Series (2 of 6)

So the No Boston Olympics people have their own series of videos, although so far none involve the use of magic crystals.

Couldn't they build one in the Cyclorama? (/jk)

I'm sure I could find 3 people to confuse with big words off the streets and make many pointless arguments while at the same time make them look very uneducated and uninformed.

At this point it is useless to argue about the olympics. There are high up officials who are for it and they will do what they want regardless as to how many pointless videos you put out.

If people are angry enough, those high up officials don't have tenure.

The confusing word that needs defining is not "velodrome" but "affordable housing". The city simply needs more housing. "Affordable housing" is a completely different thing.

I had one as a kid. They make excellent pets.

Thank you! I couldn't have so succinctly stated that better myself. Also I know what a stupid velodrome is. This video was lame.

Read about the 1976 Denver Winter Olympics ... which had to be moved to Innsbruck after the citizens of Denver voted "no" in a referendum.

Please resist the modern laziness of beginning every statement with an unnecessary 'so'.

They have nothing to do with each other. Saying no to a velodrome doesn't produce affordable housing by itself.

Asking people on the steps of Cambridge City Hall is funny. The streets there are a velodrome, while affordable housing is found outside of Cambridge.

They aren't mutually exclusive choices. A velodrome would be used even if we don't have the Olympics.

While there's unquestionably more and more people enjoying bicycling in the Boston area, why anyone would want to ride their bike 'round in circles in an enclosed building? Unlike Olympic pools that can be used by people of all ages, a velodrome would be useful to only to a very few individuals.

I'm also hoping it would get those strava idiots off the southwest corridor during rush hour.

it would be good for bringing up a new generation of competitive cyclists in the area - I think it would be a great outlet for teens in the city - only if it's in the city, though.

  • People biking during rush hour aren't doing it for recreation or competition training; they're just trying to commute from one place to another.

  • Indoor bicycling "velodrome style" requires specialized equipment that is both expensive and generally unsuitable for biking anywhere but inside a velodrome.

  • Competitive cycling need not be done in a velodrome. Indeed, the Tour de France is run outdoors on ordinary roads.

  • Expanding and improving Boston's network of bikeways and cycle tracks would benefit ordinary people who wish to commute safely, as well as those who wish to train for competition.

I followed your link but I don't understand the reference. Which video on that page does it refer to?
