Apparently, they don't have fire hydrants in Colorado

Car in front of a hydrant in Jamaica Plain

Ted Hanno spotted this miscreant this morning on Chestnut Avenue near Forbes in Jamaica Plain. He reports the note on the windshield is a request not to park in front of this thing that we Bostonians call "a hydrant."

The owner is lucky firefighters didn't need access to the hydrant.

The city of Boston should place small wifi operated camera devises on each hydrant in the city, once camera captures a car parking in front of a hydrant, it will alert the city, and city automatically dispatches a tow truck to tow away car , with all the tech devises today, this should be done, maybe it can save lives.

I can think of a much more cost effective measure. Rather than snapping photos and leaving snarky notes, call the police and tell them there is a car blocking a hydrant. The car will be towed.

Actually the car wont be towed, but given a $100 ticket

For example, if there was a major fire in a Neighborhood that resulted in many deaths because a moron like this car owner decided it was ok to park in front of a fire hydrant , do you know what will happen, victims families will sue the car owner and the city for millions for being negligent..Why would they sue the city you ask? Well, it's the responsibility of the Boston Police to issue out tickets to cars that are illegally parked to cars that are blocking hydrants and handicapped ramps.
The city of Boston can prevent hydrants from being blocked in case of large fires were to occur.
and it is a cost effective way.

Sounds fiscally prudent

Undoubtedly the owner is a California expat to Colorado who then moved here as part of the Wrong Coast's new age gentriquest.

$100 says they've been here 6+ months and haven't changed their plates. With all the money saved by evading MA excise that the rest of us pay, getting the car out of the tow lot shouldn't be an issue.

Conjecture aside, the primary violation speaks for itself. Tow the bastidd.

My experience with this is that nothing happens. In fact, the fax number on that form isn't even in service.

It's not like he would have seen the hydrant when he opened his car door to get out.

The park a good 5 feet away from them. Sure, they look like they are double parking next to the hydrant, but they hydrant is not blocked. The street is blocked so the fire engines can't get to the fire, but they will be able to access the hydrant.

....hindering fire engines from accessing a fire in the first place, let alone hooking up a firehose to a hydrant.

In Boston, calling in a car blocking a fire hydrant is a low priority call, and maybe, if you're lucky, an officer swings by and tosses a ticket on the dash. After they've blipped their siren. The car is not towed, because nobody calls BTD or a tow company to come get the car. In fact, I don't think I've EVER seen ANYONE get towed by BTD.

In Cambridge? It's not a low priority call. Within ~10 minutes someone shows up, and they immediately dispatch a tow company while they write the ticket. Ticket goes on the windshield, and within 15-20 minutes, the car is being hooked up.

Literally every time I stepped out the door, someone was parked in front of the hydrant 2 doors down from me, because idiots from the public housing complex thought it was OK to park in front of it...

Get a large bucket of water. Pour it on the windshield. Let it freeze. Repeat several times.

Then chip out a wiper so the city has somewhere to put the ticket.

Raise wiper arms to locked position, then apply water. Only need two buckets that way.

Like many people today they don't care if it is a hydrant or a handicap spot. This is the me generation - all about me, myself and I.

It's a Volkswagen!

And we were having so much fun playing the working class hero the last time someone parked in front of a hydrant.

I guess we can blame Colorado because no one from Boston would ever park in front of a hydrant.

But first a BMW and now a Volkswagen: I think something is rotten in Nazi-loving Deutschland.

Also, the next time it snows, a fire hydrant would make an awesome space saver.
