Arlington woman charged with attacking neighbor with a portable snow blower

Arlington Police report arresting a Park Avenue woman this afternoon on charges she attacked her neighbor with a handheld snowblower as part of a long-running feud.

Upon arrival, police found a 60-year-old woman suffering from lacerations to her foot. An investigation by Arlington Police Officers showed that the victim had allegedly been assaulted by a neighbor.

The investigation revealed a long-term and ongoing dispute between the two neighbors. The victim in this case had previously filed for a Harassment Protection Order against the suspect.

Barbara Davis, 61, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon - the handheld snow blower - violation of a harassment protection order and mayhem.

Police Chief Frederick Ryan expressed his disappointment:

Emotions may run high during a historic weather event like the Blizzard we just endured, but that is no excuse for violence. We are supposed to come together as a community during events like this, and I am very disappointed with these allegations.

Davis was ordered held on $35,040 bail at the Arlington lockup until she can be arraigned in Cambridge District Court.

Innocent, etc.

When do we get to see picture of this fine specimen of humanity?

And how did they decide on that amount for bail? What called for the extra $40?

$35k?? That struck me as really excessive under the circumstances, especially comparatively.

The Arlington Advocate Wicked Local web site had a more detailed article on the spat between the 60 and 61 year old condo neighbors. This morning, the extra information seems to have disappeared. Information about the woman arrested's employment and reporter's interview with the employer crossed way over the line in my opinion. Nearby store owners were asked about the two women and safety of the neighborhood, which just seemed odd to report, and again excessive for a reporter. This story got much traction in Boston media, hungry for anything not directly about the storm, so that likely inspired the investigative reporting. The next story in news cycle fluff being clearing the marathon finish line.

Neighbors were interviewed and other details came out. The one year harassment order was to expire in February. The two started fighting after the victim reportedly stopped agreeing to help take care of the other's dog, ending the better terms between them. The victim was in stocking feet allowing the hard plastic blade of the snow broom to cut her foot following some disagreement apparently bringing her to the shared front steps. Police have been called numerous times to the location in the past year.

Another source noted that the arrested woman has been unreasonable for a long time and disputes with her neighbor stemmed from her dog leaving feces on the neighbor's property and not cleaning up after it.

But scratch the surface and it's one tornado away from a trailer park.

While it didn't escalate to assault and arrests, more than once during the storm, Braintree PD responded to an address to deal with the two neighbors who were disputing the shoveling of the fire hydrant near their homes, instead of just doing it. Makes me glad for the neighbors I have.

I sent the little ones with their little shovels down to dig our neighborhood hydrants out. I told them that shoveling out and around the hydrants was really important because the firefighters needed to get to them fast in an emergency.

Damn did that group of 4-8 year olds do a proud job of it!

Some don't like the noise, others claim they contribute to global warming. They are an option for light snow. Just don't use an electric one with snow, though.
