The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Boston area at 3:50 p.m.:

AT 349 PM EDT...DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING HALF DOLLAR SIZE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THESE STORMS WERE LOCATED ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM LITTLETON TO FRAMINGHAM TO NEAR NORTHBRIDGE...AND WAS MOVING EAST AT 40 MPH.

UPDATE: right after I wrote that, we saw some hail that was easily Ping-Pong ball sized. Lots of emergency apparatus on the move out here, too.

Just watched a Dunkin Donuts employee wade through ankle-deep water at Comm Ave/Babcock intersection to retrieve two outdoor table umbrellas that had blown onto Green Line tracks.

Danielle Vollmar, Ed harding, JC Monihan and the gang at WCVB were in virtual hysterics this afternoon circa 4 PM. Vollmar was beside herself saying nonsensical things like "this is a fast moving storm but it will stay with you in your area". Everything was at fever pitch. These people need to cool it with the dramatics. It's not the only storm we've ever had.
