Finally, a group of politicians that get it. We don't want this boondoggle here!

This marks the first time that Brookline town meeting has ever been concerned about a potential hit on tax payers...

...I don't recall Boston getting to vote on Brookline hosting the U.S. Open.

Sometimes I wish our insular neighbors would just shut up, count their money, and be grateful they weren't annexed 300 years ago.

is Boston 2024 paying you to say that ehh??

Exactly. Can we amalgamate all of the municipalities in/around 128 already and be done with it?

I can tell you it was not the disorganized greed fest that is Boston 2024. In fact, I found it kind of funny that CEO's who were members at the Country Club were told they'd have to volunteer if they wanted to see it.

You think John Fish and Marty Walsh will take tickets at Boston 2024?

We should never get to vote on an event that will take place within our own borders, amirite? NEVER. No. Boston gets to veto everything in neighboring towns, but they should just STFU and be forced by a foreign organization to suck up a venue or two AND LIKE IT!!!!!!

How dare the people of Brookline not like being told to host events without being consulted and then probably be told to pay for said events!

...Brookline only considers itself part of Boston when they want to object to something? Yes, Brookline would no doubt be greatly impacted by a Boston Olympics, both positively (cash registers) and negatively (traffic). But nobody is going to force the town to host events, hoist banners, or rescind their precious overnight parking bans. Heck, maybe the good citizens of the Lone Star State could recommend a good wall builder to help keep the riffraff out. After all, Brookline has always walled itself off from Boston metaphorically (or, snottily enough, with giant planters on some streets). This could be their chance to go all the way.

I don't have any strong feelings one way or another on the bid, but I do take issue with the constant negativity, insularity, and parochialism that's surrounded the bid from day one, from certain quarters.

" But nobody is going to force the town to host events, hoist banners, or rescind their precious overnight parking bans."

Given that Boston2024 DID put Brooklnie as the host for 2 events, how would you like Brookline to demonstrate that it doesn't want to do that?

As for cash registers, the various brand exclusion zones around events mean that local businesses don't cash in on the tourists as much as you'd expect. Plus, given that tourism doesn't actually increase (it just offsets the people who normally come), the potential positive there is pretty small.

And, of course, with events planned across the street from town in BU, these events would turn North Brookline into a police state.

That sounds like a few (of many) reasons Brookline may be entitled to an opinion...

Seems to me that Boston has been the municipality that is most likely to throw fits and sue other cities and towns over things not in Boston's borders as of late.

Projection, much?

Pitching fits? Okay... if it weren't for the city of Boston and its economy your little suburb would be quaking in its boots. Stop the Boston hating. It's boring.

That many Brookline residents contribute to the economy of Boston and this country in general. Probably more than most other cities in the country.

Erm ... city ... did quite well in the days before Boston was anything. Boston would never have grown as a seaport if there weren't all these boats being made somewhere that wasn't Boston.

There is a reason certain communities were never annexed - some history study might reveal that to you.

But, when I look around, it is still Boston suing and harassing other cities over things not in Boston, not the other way around. Misdirection is not the same as discussion dear.

The IOC wants to host part of the games at a country club in Brookline... so yes, I would say they have every right to have their voices heard.

Apples and oranges. And if you actually knew what you were talking about and weren't pouting like a child, you'd know that many of the olympic events aren't acually played within the limits of the host city.

That's a 72% disapproval rating.

I thought Mayor Marty said this Olympic bid business wouldn't take any of his time away from accomplishing everything else he hoped to accomplish while in office. How's that going? Has he answered a non-Olympic question once in the last week? Was his spot on a sports talk radio show planned well before the Olympic bid was issued? He's so full of shit, I'm guessing this was all in the works well before he was even elected.

Brookline can be replaced. "Thank you, your services are no longer required."

But will add that Brookline objected to having anti-aircraft gun installations for the Olympics, no enhanced MBTA infrastructure etc. in the warrant article.

Or is the 2024 Olympics more of a Medford idea ...

I would love to see Quincy tell Boston to shove it but we won't. We just do whatever our big brother tells us to do.

If your name is Nancy, but you live in Quincy, do you pronounce it Nan-zee?

I dang near choked on my Diet Dr. Pepper when I read that super-awesome and insightful question. Sadly, I go by the regular pronunciation.

I also go by the following:

  1. Nance: rhymes with pants
  2. Nanner Bananner: preferred by my five yr old nephew and three yr old niece
  3. Jane: because sometimes Mom can't be bothered to figure out which daughter she's addressing

Other things to ponder:

  1. If I moved to Nahant, would I be Nahantcy?
  2. If I married the golf announcer, would I be Nancy Nantz? What about Nance Nantz?
  3. If I moved to France, I could be Nantes Nancy.

The possibilities are endless.

As a golfer I love the Nance Nantz.

As someone called Stevil by his nieces and nephews - now all teens and above - get comfortable with Nanner Bananner. It's a keeper.

I promise to call you Jane.

That they're making such a big deal out of the "pom pom" comment...there was nothing sexist about that remark.
