Cambridge to try the one-way street thing in East Cambridge

Cambridge public-works and traffic officials say they're turning several two-way streets in East Cambridge into temporary one-way streets starting tomorrow.

The goal is to give police, fire and EMT crews a fighting chance of getting to an emergency on snow-narrowed streets.

Please look for signs indicating the "Do Not Enter" locations.

I hope the signs are prominent enough to be noticed by people who didn't happen to read this "Please look for signs" message on the Internet.

There's also some streets in Cambridgeport that could use the same treatment.

There's some streets that just shouldn't allow cars. Everyone winds up walking in the street anyway.

Chelsea announced one-way streets yesterday:

is here, accompanying a city press release. The one-way streets will remain in effect until April 1. Cars facing the wrong way will not now be ticketed, but should be re-parked in the correct direction when brought back to these streets.

It helps that East Cambridge, like South Boston, is a grid pattern.
