Car that plunged through a fence and into the mud off Jeffries Point got there on sparking rims

Sparking car in East Boston

This surveillance video shows the car whose driver plowed through a fence and into the mud of low-tide Boston Harbor off Sumner and Marginal streets in East Boston early Sunday. The car, the tires on one side blown out, goes around the turn, then comes back, right before it leaves the road altogether.

Based on what I've gleaned from the Jeffries Point Facebook group, the guy was simply drunk. Don't underestimate the ability of booze to make people drive like idiots.

So do poppies.

Seriously, though, this looks like drunk behavior to me. Drunks can be pretty oblivious, yet aggressive.

An extremely stoned person might drive a lot slower, then stick their head out the window to watch the sparks, laugh, and do it again.

The guy driving and two female passengers. It does take some effort to rupture two tires and then drive around on them while flat long enough to shred them to get where you are driving on the rims. Didn't any of them notice a problem? Was the stereo that loud?

A car drives around on rims and crashes through a fence landing in the harbor (yes it was low tide so drowning was not a threat) resulting in Boston Fire performing a technical rescue and Boston EMS dealing will multiple injuries. This type of thing is perfect mainstream media fonder and a perfect opportunity for Boston Fire and EMS to highlight their skills on social media, but nothing to be seen anywhere but here on UHub? Who was this guy and what connections does he have that is making sure this incident stays buried?

Unless it's about waterfront development or something at Logan, we don't exist to the rest of the city or media.

Either the guy has pull or ...

Newsrooms that have been gutted over the past decade are largely no longer staffed on the weekend - like, say, 2:30 a.m. on a Sunday, when this happened. And BPD no longer posts stuff on BPDNews that doesn't involve murders, gun seizures or officers getting promoted or playing basketball with local kids.

I only heard about it because somebody asked me on Twitter why nobody had written about it.

Rumor has it someone flashed a military badge and no charges were filed, likely the reason why it was kept under wraps as well. Scary.
