Carbon monoxide has sent nine to the hospital in Boston; two in bad shape

Boston EMS reports transporting nine people to the hospital with carbon-monoxide poisoning since Jan. 26. All have survived, but two needed intensive treatment, Boston EMS and the Boston Public Health Commission say.

City officials say the cases underscore the need for residents to be especially careful in the cold weather: Homeowners should make sure they have working CO detectors and clear away any vents near the ground. Always check the car tailpipe to make sure it's clear before starting up your car. And never fire up a charcoal grill or camp stove inside, even near a window.
