Citizen complaint of the day: Affleck's from Cambridge, so he can park his cars there instead of in South Boston
By adamg on Tue, 11/24/2015 - 5:07pm
A peeved citizen, or maybe a citizen who's trying to be funny, it's hard to tell when it comes to Southie, filed a complaint today that these two cars, parked outside 61 M St., don't have residential parking permits.
The city replies:
Case Closed. Case Noted. Resident parking goes into effect at 6pm. Will check area then.

Those aren't illegally parked
Those aren't illegally parked cars, they're being used as space savers.
Why, just today ...
The mayor said you could save a space for up to 48 hours after a celebrity sighting.
24-7 Resident Parking
I have 2 garage spots so it doesn't really impact me but I don't understand why there isn't 24/7 resident parking.
This would have a huge impact on residents finding street parking. Especially on the weekends.
Right now you don't need a permit during the day M-F and you don't need a permit at all on Saturdays and Sundays.
Some places in the city have
Some places in the city have it (e.g. almost all spots in Fenway / Kenmore are either metered or RPP only 24/7).
I don't understand why it's
I don't understand why it's impossible to visit South Boston overnight for more than 2 hours. Not even a few spots here and there are available -- *everything* is permit-only 2 hour visitor parking overnight. Including on Day Boulevard, which is maintained by the state.
The entire neighborhood used to be accessible to everyone, until a girl died in a fire in 2002 because fire trucks were blocked by illegally parked cars (too close to corners or double-parked). The city used this as an excuse to ban nonresident parking.
Certainly not "yuppies"
I'm surprised that cars that are any newer than these are allowed, as they are historically consistent with the neighborhood buildings ...
Or is that just a JP thing?
FOX25 news reported vehicles were ticketed
Affleck tweeted something out about a homecoming.
FOX25 should take the hint
... and maybe stop parking illegally near the courthouse on Fan Pier (as in "on the median" or "in the right hand travel lane").
The scourge of resident
The scourge of resident parking didn't exist until around 1985, when it was created on a few blocks on Beacon Hill.
