I say "place to stick bag of dog crap [bag optional] if there's not a handy trash can"

Where are all the Allston townies, whining about how all this "Allston-bashing" is hurting their precious little feelings?

Show some sensitivity, its not 11am yet. They are still hung over and asleep in the gutter.

In your imagination?

Because we don't give a damn.

City employees still don't know the official city rules on space saving. I put in a citizens connect complaint about space savers in Dorchester over the weekend, and the city closed it saying space savers are allowed 48 hours after a snowstorm. This is incorrect of course, they are only allowed after a snow emergency, which we didn't have this weekend. It seems like the Walsh administration is even more impotent than Menino, which is impressive given how useless he was with the space saver issue.

I am astonished and shocked to hear this, said nobody, ever.

City employees still don't know the official city rules on space saving

The rule is no longer "48 hours after a snowstorm."

Space savers were made illegal by Ordinance 1310, passed last year by the City Council, which imposes a $250 fine for space savers.

Let's see if the city actually has the balls to enforce its own law.

Its 48 hours after a snow emergency has been lifted, not just after a snowstorm. For a regular snowstorm, according to the law, no space savers. But since few laws and enforced in Boston, especially driving and parking laws, its unlikely the city will ticket anyone.

The wording and timing leave no doubt that it was passed as a direct response to Haystack and similar apps, but would cover space savers as well. I do have to wonder how it will be enforced for the latter though.

It's pretty much impossible to prove who is using the space saver, unless they are caught in the act, which would require a patrol to be passing by or a neighbor to call and an officer arrive in time to catch the culprit in the act.

Observing the license plate(s) of a given car or cars and contacting the proper authorities seems like an excellent way to track down offenders in this respect.

Be sure to keep us posted on how that works out for you.

I think we all know the answer to that, don't we?

Walsh was quoted the other day saying that he felt you should be allowed to claim a spot for 48 hours after a snow storm, so the practice is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Weakling.

Parsing the wording of written law, parsing the wording of the written agreement includes reading for contradicted phasing and/or particulars that might not apply in all instances. In law there's the legislator who proposed it and the writer who actually wrote the wording. Any other examples?...

on Condor Street in Eastie yesterday. At Noon. While the sun was shining.

When Menino made an official policy to tolerate this selfish crap, that was the beginning of the end. Neither Walsh nor anyone else has the courage or integrity to get rid of this absurd practice now.

Convince them that only they should have space saving abilities in Boston if we want them to throw their party in our town. Space saving will be banned yesterday.

I totally agree. If Menino had the stones to order Public Works or Parking Enforcement employees to pull the crap from the streets, then the practice would have quickly died out. Remember this was the same leader who resumed the practice of towing for street cleaning under the premise of giving people "clean streets".

Instead, the mayor did nothing, and I have personally witnessed the head of BTD dropping a cone to save "his" on street parking spot.

Why don't all you passive aggressive picture takers get off your asses and do something about a problem instead of going online and complaining about it. Walk down your stairs and go move the chair.

You must be new here - I suggest you search up some discussion threads about what happens when people move those sacred chairs.

If there is trash on the sidewalk in front of your house, do you pick it up or call the city to remove it?

up
Voting closed 0

We would pick it up ourselves. I haven't heard of anybody getting assaulted for moving trash off of the sidewalk....

up

Except thanks to the City not taking a stand on this issue, the person moving the chair could be harmed, and the person who then parks in the now open spot, could have their car vandalized.

I do move space savers. I pick them up when I go for walks and throw them in a nearby trash bin. I used to live in Pittsburg where this practice was common, I was surprised to see it here but since Southie is redneckville I guess it makes sense.

Rednecks have class.

We pick it up.....

Trash doesn't hit back or damage your property like some d-bag that saves a spot before the storm.

up

I didn't think there were any left. Isn't space saving something that only occurs in South Boston?

up

Apparently whining about being picked on by UHub only happens in Southie.

You need to take a walk.

There were about 10 space savers already out there this morning. Awful.

After the Globe article on the shortage of parking spaces in the city, I wonder how much on-street parking capacity is reduced a couple of days after a snow emergency.
