City workers legally free again to badmouth Olympic proposal
By adamg on Tue, 02/24/2015 - 3:46pm
Mayor Walsh's office said today he and the US Olympic Committee have agreed to a revised contract "joinder" that no longer prohibits city workers from saying negative things about the Olympics.
In January, Walsh had signed off on a clause that prohibited such Debbie Downer talk - which he said was just boilerplate that every other city had always agreed to and something he never had any intention of enforcing.

There is absolutely nothing about 2024
That isn't completely and utterly rotten.
In January, Walsh had signed
Exactly how many other contracts has he signed, while mayor, with this (lack of) intention? Does he even read what he signs?
Mayor Walsh should be more
Mayor Walsh should be more concerned with other issues and this should not have even crossed his mind.
Wonder what else
Mayor Mahty signed off on unknowingly....
Great
So Walshie freely admits that he signs things just because everyone else does it. Way to represent the city, Mahhhty!
One and done.
Less than one.
Who becomes mayor if Marty resigns?
I would almost rather have seen someone fired
For this "speechcrime", then watch them sue the heck out of the city, just so this prohibition could be exposed as an illegal, unconstitutional piece of junk.
Dan Farnkoff you seem to
Dan Farnkoff you seem to always hit the nail in the head. I just love how you tell it like it is.......you should run for office!!!
Meanwhile uhub has been
Meanwhile uhub has been blasting it all along!
This Mayor isn't starting off on the right foot!
Can someone say FREEDOM OF SPEECH! Someone probably advised him that the city would get sued if he violated their RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH!!!
I'll give the alternative viewpoint
Short and sweet- the City cannot have cabinet level officers and department heads come out and say the Olympics sucks. The City is making a bid, and those folk are a part of the bid.
On the other hand, Joe Schoolteacher, Steve Patrolman, and Mary Metermaid definitely should be able to speak their mind.
The difference between the former and the latter is that the former are decision makers. I'm fairly certain the IOC only cares about them. Of course, in a democracy, the latter could have more power through numbers, but that's a different arena.
