Congressman to march with gay vets in St. Patrick's parade

First-term US Rep. Seth Moulton will march with OUTVets in the St. Patrick's parade in South Boston this Sunday, the group says.

Moulton, a Salem Democrat who is himself a Marine veteran of the second Iraq war, said he was proud to be part of the first LGBT group in the parade.

I'm incredibly proud to march with OUTVETS in Boston's St. Patrick's Day parade. Gay rights is the civil rights fight of our generation. We talked last weekend about the steady march toward freedom and justice with the anniversary of Selma. This is an extension of that march. We have made great progress, but we still have a long way to go.

And Polito?

We know how Polito feels about gays and lesbians, but Charles is an unknown. He tells the story about his brother being gay, but we know now not to trust Charles' fish stories. Even so, having a gay family member unfortunately does not confer compassion or understanding.

Good for him. I'm not the parade-type myself but I'm glad to see someone aligning with the OUTVets.

marches with a bunch of gay vets in a parade? How does this guy expect to get ahead if he's not out provoking war and possibly violating the Logan Act?

Sheesh!

As I recall, Tisei has a personal stake in this.

The official parade website still has the originally planned route posted, with no indication whatsoever that this information is now out of date. Then again, that web site also still says that the parade organizer is "To be announced." Still, four days before the event?

NECN posted what they claim to be the new parade route. The map shown (West Broadway to East Broadway to Farragut) doesn't match the article text which says that the parade will go down East First Street.

P.S. It's going to rain on your parade.

there's a decent chance we could see snow on Sunday. How much, if any, accumulation is still up in the air.

It's probably time to change the name. The Catholic schools are bailing out. The news doesn't report on anything but the gay agenda. I can't find anything that indicates how St Patrick will be celebrated.

Will you mimeograph one for me if you ever get it? I was left off the mailing list myself.

You mean one catholic school run by a guy who was excommunicated?

That weird non-church school does this every year too.

Maybe there was something that took places around the 17th of March in South Boston history that they could be celebrating. I dunno know, perhaps the evacuation of British troops from Boston in 1776.

with the parade's new, shorter route.

Anyone who relies on that website is going to be disappointed and confused when they arrive in Southie.

Well the organizers have said again and again its really a veterans parade (when they were explaining not allowing gay groups or anti war groups to march). So, it hasn't been about the death of St. Patrick in awhile.

FYI for gay boys and girls, and others who want to get in the spirit of the parade, dressing for the occasion! Or just the weather.

Not all Irish are Catholic. Northern Ireland is predominantly Protestant. I have Irish family on both my mother's and father's sides -- they practice both religions.

Mostly fellow Celts from Scotland (albeit of a different religious persuasion), with just a thin Anglo-Norman aristocracy.

My mother referred to the "orange" irish as "those" people.
