Dorchester man pleads guilty to transporting girls across state lines to sell them for sex

Derek "Dub" Miranda, 21, pleaded guilty yesterday to sex-trafficking charges involving teens - two of them just 14 - he had driven to Providence with the intent of having them work for him as prostitutes, the US Attorney's office reports.

Federal officials say Miranda met the three - all runaways from Lowell - in Brockton on Jan. 14, gave them a place to stay and intended to have them service some guys he had coming over. They fled, but then contacted him again the next day because "they had no place else to go," according to an affidavit by a federal agent who investigated the case.

Then, officials say, he brought them to Randolph, called an Uber car and he, the girls and an adult women journeyed to a Providence apartment, where he again intended to put them to work. One of the three, however, texted a friend that she wanted to leave. The friend told the girl's father, who contacted Providence Police, who responded and arrested Miranda.

Miranda will be sentenced March 9, the US Attorney's office says.

and not to make you more disheartened and disgusted, but - when this occurred back in January, I had heard about it and was waiting for it show up on local TV news.

One station did mention it "coming up" but I waited and there was nothing about it live on the news that night. Instead, the news was plastered with people interviewed, aghast at the scalping prices for superbowl tickets. What makes it even more disgusting & disheartening is what takes a front seat: Football. vs human lives, and what happens to children & the most vulnerable. To put it bluntly, as a society we have our priorities & values up our arses.
