Fish: Company won't bid on any Olympics work

John Fish tells the Globe his Suffolk Construction will not do any Olympics work so that he can continue to head up the private Olympics committee without a conflict of interest.

Rising seas lift all boats. Indirectly, Suffolk may be able to charge more for any new work they do, since everyone else will be stretched with Olympics work..

If Fish's secret plan is to distract his competitors with a massive amount of Olympic construction, why does the plan that Fish wrote himself rely on using so many existing structures?

Why don't you enlighten us? This is your third Anon pro-Fish posting today.

Adam - It looks like some intern at R*gan Communications is at a keyboard today.

Care to argue the actual point?

So, why reason with a wall? Besides your response indicates that you are a lackey of either Fish, Regan, or worse Mintz.

Not sure what you think ad hominem accomplishes besides making you look like you have no real point. Try arguing the point, not the person if you want to be taken seriously.

Coward. It's not like you have to reveal your full name. I don't. It just prevents trolls like you from being jerk offs.

Ted Fish is the CEO of Peabody construction - John's brother.

Only problem is - who's left that's big enough? Part of Boston's problem in not being NY or LA is we aren't a very big city - once you eliminate a couple of players - there's not much left that has the clout/expertise/money to get this stuff done.

And as I said below.. how much do you wanna bet Peabody "contracts" Suffolk do the work?

And yes they could do that. Technically John Fish wouldn't be apart of it, but they may have to due to their size and (*gulp*) experience with large projects.

Just trust me, not every crane up in town is Suffolk.

List the top 10 next biggest.

Peabody doesn't count and I think Turner.

Then...

Voting closed 0

In no particular order...

  1. Turner, as you mentioned
  2. Skanska
  3. John Moriarty Associates
  4. Dimeo
  5. Lee Kennedy
  6. Shawmut
  7. BOND
  8. Columbia
  9. Commodore
  10. Tishman Construction(AECOM)

All these companies are plenty capable of performing large projects relative to the olympics bid and all have a presence in Greater Boston area. Each will have their preference over which type of projects they'd go after. I'm also certain that you'd see some more competition from companies without a Boston presence for the stadiums, and there's another whole group that would be vying for the infrastructure projects, but those are going to come along sooner or later regardless.

You've made allegations and it's been shown you didn't know a major company went out of business ten years ago, It's been shown that you have no idea how many large construction contractors are operating in the city and capable of doing the work. Will you admit you got out over the tips of your skis and that you were wrong?

And pigs will fly out of my butt.

Who's he trying to fool?

Come on Fishy John, we're not stupid. You know you'll just have some family member or someone else connected to your organization will do it. Just like a politician does... "oh no, I'm, not involved but my wife/brother/BIL/kid/son/babysitter/call girl is involved with that"

And honestly I'd be surprised if Suffolk DIDNT build any of it, they've built just about everything else around here.

So the question looms, if he's not building it, then why does he care if it gets done? And why is he the chair of this org?

Something smells bad in the state of Denmark, and it's not their cheese....

He's just going to funnel business to his back door partner Peabody Construction, right?

But his wife, gay cousin, lesbian sister, physically challenged veteran uncle, Asian adopted niece or American Indian great grandfather will likely be awarded the contracts for minority owned business. Which in turn will sub out the work to Suffolk after they take their share for doing nothing.

If his competitors are all tapped out doing Olympic construction projects, leaving him little competition on "normal" projects, doesn't that still count as benefiting? Maybe he's promising to only bid on projects outside of the State for the next 10 years?

These responses are seriously whack. He runs a construction company, of course he'll still be doing work for the next 9 years. He's making a good faith gesture here, not offering to bankrupt his firm in exchange for the Olympics. I really don't know what more people would expect from him.

Fish. When I find out some dirt on Fish, I'll do as you suggested and bring it right to the BPD. Why, I'll deliver it straight to the desk of Tom Menino, Jr himself!

In 2013, Suffolk Construction owned over HALF of all projects costing more than $7M.

"Suffolk is one of the leading privately held construction companies in the country, with offices in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and West Coast."

http://www.bizjournals.com/boston/print-edition/2013/07/26/the-suffolk-j...

But fuck that noise, his 600 employees will watch as Moriarty and others build all the Olympics stuff in time by themselves? Ha.

He'll probably be willing to make an exception at the last minute if some of those other guys are having trouble getting their projects completed. For the good of the city, you understand, and at only a slightly increased rate of payment due to the rush nature of the job.

They really think we're that dumb, don't they?!

First, define "Olympic-related." Does that include just the venues, or will it include any building made necessary by the Olympics? what about infrastructure construction? By moving all Olympic related building to other companies, Suffolk gets to move in on all other building projects, which is where the money will be long-term. This is such a scam

I immediately think of the scene in Shawshank Redemption where the guy gives the warden a box of pie stuffed with money and the warden responding that his men are already committed to other projects.

..that means we should never attempt any large projects ever again? If you want a town that is stagnant and unchanging, there are plenty of other places in this state for you.

"A bit of of a boondoggle"?

It started off as a $3 billion project and ended up costing over $17 Billion. Its still not finished! The on-ramps at Haymarket still have re-bar sticking out of the walls waiting for something. The temporary wooden structures around the rebar disintegrated years ago.

We all remember the DNC in 2004 also. Millions spent on police details while the city was in virtual lockdown. The Central Artery was closed for days. And that was one facility being used. Can you imagine what it would be like with events all over the city?

The olympics in Boston will be the biggest scam ever.

Give it to another third world dictator trying to impress the neighbors.

I fell off my unicorn after reading and actually trying to believe this....

First, Peabody Conatruction went belly up around 2005. Before it did, John and Ted Fish had a falling out to such an extent that it would be preposterous to suggest John and Ted would conspire with each other. You guys don't like the Olympics - we get it. But suggesting that Fish's primary motive is to earn business for his construction company (even after he's promised recusal) is comical. This is the ultimate peanut gallery know nothing blather.

I don't work for George Regan or Fish, but come on, people. Let's elevate the debate.

As I said above - list the top 10 after Suffolk - that are competent to do projects over $100 million.

up
Voting closed 0

You're right, Peabody is gone and John and Ted don't get along. However, if you don't think that a large number of the smaller projects will be awarded to Dellbrook Construction, run by Michael Fish, you, sir, are a crazy person.

Meanwhile, the other major players will be so concerned with Olympic venues that Suffolk will be the only feasible option for all of the MBTA and Massport projects, and you can be sure there will be plenty of projects and he'll be paid handsomely for his work.

up
Voting closed 0

"I said I wouldn't bid on anything... but no-bid contracts are A-OK!"

Or maybe he's taking his promise-making lessons from the MBTA. Still waiting on that Red/Blue connector...

In this case, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't...

Let J Fish (Suffolk Construction) bid and win construction work related to the Olympics but force him to stick to his bids! The estimates on what it costs to build the infrastructure will change very quickly.

Peabody doesn't exist any more. If you believe the rumors, Fish's bro runs NEI now. But that's not am issue for the Olympics

Suffolk won't bid on these projects because they won't have to. All the big dogs will chase the steak while all the non-federal funded projects will go to Suffolk. Fish is no dummy

To answer who is going to get this massive project? It will be a joint venture. Skanska and &
JF White are shoe ins. Gilbane is my guess to the last. They will be finishing the casino by then with plenty of personnel in the area to take it all over.
