G X'ed

So, g, the tabloid supplement the Globe launched in 2008, is no more, with its stuff now showing up in a brand-new full-figured kind of regular section in the Globe. Comics were moved to the Metro section because where else are you going to put them?

Any thoughts from folks who still read the Globe on paper?

... so that's an improvement. Will they still occasionally (semi-randomly) be in color on weekdays?

The comics on page 12 are in black and white, while those on page 13 are color.

It would be nice if they were always in color, but I can get over it. What I like the least is when they print the "color" version, but in black and white (as they did today on page B12.) It makes Dilbert look like he's got a tan, among other problems.

... I don't remember seeing colored comics this morning (but did notice the b&w ones looked "off".

are black and white in my paper too. But they do look a little "off." Guess you got a semi-special edition.

I'll wait a few more days to see how the new topical sections work. I think I like having two or three stories to a page now. I wonder why they didn't keep the comics and puzzles in the new revamped section.

Sorry I have the paper version at home, but typically read the epaper version (which I LOVE) at work. On the epaper, one page is color and one is b&w.

That often gave me ideas for interesting events to attend, and I don't see it in today's full-size Living/Arts section.

(I've already sent e-mail about this to [email protected], who has invited comments on the redesign.)

Beyond that ... I'm going to wait a week to evaluate this, since each day has a different theme and we've only seen Monday so far.

... is a big loss. The once a week list on Thursday is no substitute.

Much better. If you're doing print, do it big. Coverage seems smarter/broader when each day's issue is not defined so fully by one cover story, which was the (often disappointing) case with the tabloid.

When they launched "g", by snark was "g, as in gee, we used to be a proper paper. I mean, only 3 sections broadsheet!

Now business has reappeared as a section on its own and I've gotten used to having my news "dessert" in tabloid format. Give me a week. To be fair today, the Globe is my evening paper (Herald on the train, of course.)

Funny that you called it "dessert". That's how I always think of G. It's all fluff, but that makes it my favorite part.

They've dropped the bridge column that used to appear with the comics, dagnabbit.

The Bridge column may appear later in the week if it wasn't daily. I never paid attention to it, but I don't know that it was there everyday.

This is usually the time when they drop one and hope no one notices. I was HOPING that they'd get rid of the Doonesbury re-runs, but it's still there today.

I thought the only reason to buy the Globe was if you had a puppy.

I violently and vehemently object to the elimination of the G section. I loved its diminutive size and collection, in one place, of all of the "lighter" stuff from the paper. Having to grapple with a full-sized newspaper page, especially on the T, simply stinks. And don't get me started on having to go to 2 different sections now that the comics are in the Metro section. Please, please, please - bring the G section back!!

I can't believe I mocked the creation of "g"

The missus is back to reading the Herald in the morning at the breakfast table. She likes the compactness. She read it before, before the Globe poached the advice columns.
