Help bring "Can You Dig This" to Boston

CAN YOU DIG THIS - Trailer

We're trying to bring the award-winning documentary Can You Dig This to Boston. The film will be shown at the Loews Boston Common at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 1 -- but only if at least 125 people reserve tickets by Friday.

What is Can You Dig This? From Delirio Films:

"South Los Angeles. What comes to mind is gangs, drugs, liquor stores, abandoned buildings and vacant lots. The last thing that you would expect to find is a beautiful garden sprouting up through the concrete, coloring the urban landscape. As part of an urban gardening movement taking root in South LA, people are planting to transform their neighborhoods and are changing their own lives in the process. Calling for people to put down their guns and pick up their shovels, these 'gangster gardeners' are creating an oasis in the middle of one of the most notoriously dangerous places in America. Can You Dig This follows the inspirational journeys of four unlikely gardeners, discovering what happens when they put their hands in the soil. This is not a story of science and economics. This is a story of the human spirit, inspiring people everywhere to pick up their shovels. From Executive Producer John Legend, Can You Dig This premiered at the 2015 LA Film Festival and won its Jury Award. The film also features a new song by John Legend and an original score by David Andrew Sitek of TV On the Radio."

If you're interested in documentary films, urban gardening as a means to improve the quality of city life, or supporting the dissemination of art and ideas about sustainability, beauty, respect, health, and humanity, this might be up your alley.

Tickets for this one-time special event are available at http://gathr.us/screening/13415. You will only be billed if we reach our goal of at least 125 viewers.

I was lucky enough to see this premiere in South Central LA last month. It is a MUST SEE. Do not let this pass you by.

Can we start a kickstarter to ban this film (for the children!) instead?

Tickets (with fee) are $14.40. For 125 tickets, that's only $1800. That seems like a reasonable number for an organization or benefactor to pay for (since it has to be by Friday) and then make tickets free or even recoup their loss if they charge a resale on the ticket.

Is there a Closed Caption option for the preview? I don't see it.

Will the screening be accessible to Deaf and Blind folks?

I posted this on the site for one of my meetup groups, since the membership includes a large number documentary fans. Hope that helps, at last look they need another 74 confirmed reservations. Unfortunately I work on Tuesday evenings so can't make it myself.

Why isn't the movie being publicly released ? It would seem like the type of thing the makers of would want to be seen by as wide of an audience as possible rather than trying to capitalize on.

Not sure if by publicly released you mean they should show it for free, but it can be surprisingly costly to make even a "low-budget" film. I'm guessing it's unlikely they'll recoup their costs, let alone capitalize on anything.

Mr Finley gave an inspiring speech for TED back in 2013. Enjoy.
