I had high hopes for the new mayor, but it seems he's made the decision to leave the city looking like crap, letting the roads stay narrowed, letting cars park wherever and however they feel like it, letting traffic stay even worse than usual -- just ride out the rest of the winter and hope and pray things don't get any worse. Which is pretty much what we're left to do after his dismal display of non-leadership: wait out the rest of his term and hope and pray things don't get any worse.

In Galway:

I bet they don't have any snow problems, either!

My cousin let me know she was terrified to drive.

I bet that Galway County Council have probably made sure there is no snow anywhere on the roads by now.

Come on Walsh. Learn what Galway is doing to take care of the snow and let's do that.

Mayor of Boston - present to 2018.
Work for Boston 2024 as special liaison to the city or some nonsense, 2018-2024
2024-2027 Sit on various boards and non-elected positions until he retires at 60 with a fat pension.

James Rooney is the template - retire at 41 with a pension then get another publicly financed gig which pays even better.

8 feet of snow was dumped on the city in less than 6 weeks. We have already gone seriously over budget on our snow removal budget. Are the streets perfect? No. Are they passable and (for the most part) safe? Yes. I have driven around many of the neighborhoods, particularly to see the BPS bus stops and it is safe for the kids. Is the traffic always easy? No, but when is it in the city. For all the critics, I would love to hear your plan to remove the excess snow and snowbanks. How would you fund it? The city is safe, while not perfect, and as a tax payer and a BPS parent I say let the environment do it's job. Residents as well. Get out in front of your house, or your neighbors, and start breaking up the snow banks while the weather is warm and the sun is shine. My particular block is in great shape, and this past weekend and the last two days, most of my neighbors have been out breaking up snow banks while the sun is shining and the streets look great. I wasn't a huge fan of Menino, and I didn't vote for Walsh, but overall I think the city is doing a great job working on the snow removal and making the city passable, and safe. The whiny internet trolls that sit and bitch need to get outside with a shovel and start breaking up some snow banks!

Read the South Huntington Street article. There are streets that still need TLC. Yes, some idiot posted here that Walsh has somehow failed by not clearing each and every side street to the curb, but some work remains.

No need for contractors, but surely the Public Works folk have some equipment for that, and how are parts of Huntington Ave in Back Bay/Fenway still undone?

Marty knows who votes for him and isn't risking alienating the vocal minority of old timers who believe a spot is their birthright just to do what's right in the eyes of a majority of the people who don't vote.

I think he's a disappointment but that only means he's a keen politician who has studied what to do to ensure he'll have the job for decades.

Mayor Marty Walsh is just another damned politician who's afraid of losing what he considers crucial votes, so he's allowed cars to park where and however they feel like it, and doesn't really get the majority of the streets plowed, either.

Cambridge, too, has rather god-awful snow-removal in many, if not most of its areas, which is no consolation, either.

How is it that some people lived in a completely different Boston than I did when Menino was mayor?

One of my fondest snow memories was waiting for the commuter rail at Roslindale Square 3 days after the April Fools storm and seeing Roslindale Avenue still unplowed. Second would be the merchants of Newbury Street complaining back in 2011 that there was no parking after weeks of snow, and we're talking 38 inches for the month with only one storm over a foot. To be fair, the poor jobs make more of an impression that good jobs at removal, but still.

Am I happy with the pace of snow removal? No, but it is getting better. But I won't accept that Walsh is handling this any worse than his predecessor did.
