How Revere sparked a Newton-based chain of nail salons

WBUR introduces us to the history of MiniLuxe, which hopes to become the Starbucks of nail salons - and which treats workers better than those places in New York and got started when a partner at a Boston investment firm was driving through Revere and noticed all the nail salons there.

| love the cleanliness and the service and it's worth the extra money but do not go to the Newbury Street location until they get a new manager and get their stuff together.

They used to have a great manager but she left for a super upscale day spa also on Newbury Street and ever since then that location has devolved into a hot mess.

I know this is going to sound petty but I don't like getting my brows waxed and having one of them be shorter than the other. At my age, I have to hope that it grows back. That would have never happened when the old manager was there.

Another pet peeve - having the new receptionists (I refuse to call them any kind of management) should not be standing around the front desk leaning on it when clients are checking in or out. Act like you're interested in the client for 30 seconds and then go back to leaning on the desk and yapping with each other.

I have started schlepping to the MiniLuxe at Derby Street in Hingham instead. I don't like the atmosphere as much - it's way too suburban for me - but it seems to be well run.

There is a new one slated to open at the Prudential Center. I really, really hope that one is well managed and has great staff. I'd love to start going back in the city for their services.

Nancy,

I used to go to the Newbury Street location as well but haven't stepped foot in there since the shakeup. I still get to see Misty for her amazing brow (and other) waxing - she's just up the street at Beaucage. I was afraid it'd be too "fancy" for me, but Misty is still Misty and she rocks and the people there are very nice. I hope you'll get to see her at her (relatively) new location. Their nail services are a little pricey for me, so I've started going elsewhere for those services.

Best of luck!

I too, used to go to that one. I adored one manicurist, then she left. The others were sadists, and I had a weird incident - made an appointment, was choosing color, and manager rushed me and insisted I start my appointment earlier then scheduled.

I love Town's on Charles St!!!

"started when a partner at a Boston investment firm was driving through Revere and noticed all the nail salons there."

This was better than the partner's first idea: a chain of needle-strewn beaches.

We might be looking at a worldwide conglomerate of suit-and-tie gentleman's clubs.
