Air Products Supplying India's First Solar-Powered Station

Air Products & Chemicals Inc. APD has announced the launch of the first solar-powered renewable fueling station in India. The SmartFuel station, supplied by Air Products, is located at the Solar Energy Center near Delhi and generates 100% renewable hydrogen from solar energy through an electrolyzer.

A part of the project is managed by the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE). The project was implemented by India's University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) and financed by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) of the government of India.

According to the business development manager-Asia for Air Products' Hydrogen Energy Systems, the project puts forward the importance of hydrogen as a sustainable transportation fuel and alternative energy source, not just for India but the rest of the world. Though it’s a demonstration project, it will enable India to move toward the hydrogen economy, the former director of Indian Oil and the Principal Investigator for the project, Dr. Niranjan Raje, noted.

Air Products now has three hydrogen fueling stations operating in India. The company is the leading supplier of hydrogen to refineries to help in producing cleaner burning transportation fuels and has huge experience in the hydrogen fueling industry.
