Derek Lessing spotted these guys up on a roof on West Newton Street in the South End, using a chainsaw to break up gutter ice. You can tell they're trained professionals by their safety harnesses.

Professionals?
You can tell they're not experienced by using chainsaws next to a wooden structure. It could easily bounce and damage the roof while then causes water damage worse than is caused by ice dams.
They are roofers.
If you accidentally cut the roof, you fix it. Not that complicated for a roofer. You can at least make something temporary for the winter.
What?
I hope they wear goggles and don't shear off the gutters.
That gutter will need to be replaced anyway.
These roofers will probably make $1,500 cutting this gutter off, and will replace it for $300
How much do they charge for
How much do they charge for removing an 8 foot long 6 inch thick ice slab attached to siding of house. Afraid it might fall... serious
Depends on how high it is.
Most wintertime roofers start at $250 for a job you describe.
