Iowa Pokemen ordered held without bail for at least four months

A Boston Municipal Court judge today ruled two men who traveled to a Boston Pokemon competition loaded for bear are enough of a potential danger to society that the can be held without bail for at least four months before they come to trial.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports that Judge Thomas Horgan that James Stumbo, 27, and Kevin Norton, 18, should remain behind bars.

The two face weapons charges following their arrests last month. Prosecutors charge that not only did they not have licenses for the guns and ammo police found in the car but they began their journey from Iowa by making online threats to use the weapons against specific individuals at the Pokemon tourney at the Hynes.

Police and security guards blocked the two from entering the convention center when the pair - both themselves master Pokemon players who had been invited to Boston by organizers - showed up. Police arrested them the next day after obtainint a search warrant to find a shotgun, a rifle and ammunition in the car.

Innocent, etc.

without rogue pokemon players from Iowa loose on the streets (or more likely back in their parents' basements).

I don't know their names, but there is the guy who posted threats online and brought the guns to Boston. And then there is his friend who didn't post anything and didn't know the guns were there. The friend should be let out on bail.

I'm not fans of these guys, but fair is fair. Image being thrown in jail for 3 months because your friend is a loser? Jesus, we're all at risk!

While I can see why the judge made the decision, three months without bail is a long time based on assumptions about whether they were a serious threat or two morons shooting off their mouths. Don't they usually try to assess dangerousness before denying bail?

Three months for specific threats against specific individuals, backed up by weapons carried across straight lines, seems pretty fair to me.

"I'm gonna kill X person on Y date with Z weapons, plus here is a picture of said weapons!" "OK clearly you are stable and trustworthy, see you at your trial." Yeah uh no.

I'm wondering why this is in Boston Municipal Court at all. Isn't transporting guns across state lines a federal crime? Hell, if Homeland Security can go after Rentboy.com, wouldn't a couple of gone-toting threat-making internet denizens warrant their attention?

Basically getting caught with guns without a license.

The Feds have no restriction on that but you are subject to the local laws wherever you go. (Google is your friend, do not fear it).

The Feds have no restrictions on armed people making specific threats on the internet?

Hate to cast doubts on your needlessly condescending post, but I think you might be mistaken about that.

I think it's safe to say if the feds wanted to take the case, they'd find some way to do so. Ironically, the defendants might be better off. Federal judges tend to be much more sane than the local guys. And I think this guy's no-bail decision is pretty unsupportable. Wouldn't be surprised to see it appealed and overturned.

"Isn't transporting guns across state lines a federal crime?" and I answered it. At the risk of sounding condescending again you may want to read your own posts.

But that's OK. You probably didn't have time to read my whole post, what with all the responsibility that comes with being the smartest person in the whole wide world.

So thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge! For my part, I'll try to engage with only verified participants from now on.

And more than a little personal. It doesn't seem to be a serious question, more of lament on a totally different topic. I chose to stay and topic and at hand and not try to compare it to your lonely guy website. If you weren't so touchy you would be able to follow the context of the discussion.
