Dress your dogs up like clowns. I'm sure they appreciate being forced to wear fake antlers, bells and Santa hats. Force them to wear a cheesy sweater over their fur coat, too.

I think you're anthropomorphizing just a tad there.

I'm not going to argue about the worth of dressing up dogs; "dumber than dog sweaters" is one of my favorite metrics for something that's really truly stupid. However, 1)the idea isn't completely stupid (there are some dogs that do need some added protection in some conditions), and 2)it's for a good cause. To the extent that greyhounds harbor deep resentments and complex motivations, I'm guessing this occasion would not be that high on their list of motivations.

These dogs' days of being forced to do anything is behind them. Greyhounds, like many other breeds, have hair, not fur. As such, they don't tolerate temperature extremes as well as their furry cousins, so an extra layer in winter and extra shade in summer is called for. The general rule of thumb is if you need a jacket to go out, so does your greyhound. Greyhounds are sensitive, loving, intuitive, curious creatures. They are capable of learning from their experiences and enriching the quality of life of those around them. Just like you.

The dogs appreciate being loved and cared for. They don't really give a shit about the sweaters.

PS. Whatever you're currently wearing looks horrible. Your Mom should be ashamed for dressing you like that.

… cats will generally have nothing to do with them!

It could be worse, they could be forced to chase a fake rabbit around an oval, like 1.4 million voters in the Commonwealth voted in favor of in 2008. Thankfully they were beaten out by a more compassionate lot.

If you hate this practice so much, I recommend getting it on the ballot. You could help end the practice of animals being forced to wear insulating clothing!

Greyhounds have less body fat, less fur and thinner skin than many other breeds.
In colder weather, it is recommended that they wear some kind of coat (or an ugly Christmas sweater).

And for anyone in the market for a new best friend - especially one as elegant and sweet as a greyhound - there are plenty of greyhound rescue shelters (like this one in Mendon, but really, there are lots of others!) where you can adopt a retired racing dog and give it a much better life.

Greyhounds are the best. Meek, gentle, lazy, and beautiful. In case you need convincing about the nature of these beasts, check out this guide to petting a greyhound:
