This little old storm? Pfft

Today's storm is just a warmup (cooldown?) for what could come Tuesday. Matt Noyes at NECN gets us to checking our egg cartons and bread box:

[S]ignals are stronger than ever of a large storm developing off New England's coast. This storm will be packed with energy, and fed by the contrast of warm southern air and moisture, and arctic air streaming in from the north. ... [T]he important part of this is the idea of a storm with huge breadth - an expansive strong and potentially damaging wind field, and a large swath of precipitation with cold air in place for New England. The result could be not only heavy, wind-driven snow with blizzard conditions, but also damaging wind, coastal surf and coastal flooding.

Even the cautious forecasters at the local NWS office have us bracing:

[Late Mon. - Wed.] We are leaning towards a rather high impact storm event especially for Southern and Eastern New England.

So, yeah, the French Toast Alert is staying at Yellow/Elevated for now, but could go higher if panic warrants.

and it could be BIG. All the 12Z models, including the GFS, have at least an 18" storm for Boston. Too early for details, but I have seen 1978 and 1969 bandied about in the discussion threads of meteorological bulletin boards (don't ask!).

I love meteorological chats, even though it's all Greek to me. Can you expand on this a bit? What would have to happen for this to go from big to epic?

I've been reading the same things, but some of the more conservative blogs I read think that the Euro could have corrected too far west. I haven't seen that anyone has yet commented on any later model runs this evening.

I have to say, though, it's looking good. I always think that slowly creeping snow totals that start with an "eh, dusting" a few days out are a good sign. NWS is keeping things on the low side, while my weather people are either saying, it's still too complicated to call, or they're already calling for a lot of snow.

I'm gonna need something stronger -- in adult beverage form -- if this comes to pass.

I hear it's delicious this time of year. Nice, oaky flavor to it!

It will run nice in that alcohol lamp used to keep the hot spiced and spiked cider warm. Or a good low heat for the mulled wine.

Snowmaggedon Revisited:
Please Submit Your Photographs!

The Lower Mills Fine Art Gallery is proud to announce its juried exhibit: Snowmaggedon Revisited.
