Making short work of long busway at Forest Hills

The end of the Forest Hills upper busway

Clay Harper watched the demolition of the upper busway at Forest Hills this morning. It's part of the work to add a berth for those extra-long 39 buses now that the old trolley station they'd been using is in the way of the new Arborway.

You mean the old trolley station that never once saw a trolley. It was opened in 1987 when the Orange Line moved to its current path instead of the Washington St. elevated tracks. But Arborway service was discontinued in 1985 and, despite the tracks being maintained for over 20 years, they were never used in revenue service again.

So the busway was permanently moved to a worse location, to make way for wider surface roads which are necessary because of the overpass demolition? How much longer will Route 39 passengers have to wait because of this?
