MBTA says subway lines back to pre-snowpocalypse levels
By adamg on Thu, 03/19/2015 - 7:32am
The MBTA reports that with the addition of some Green Line cars this morning, all four subway lines are now back at their normal car numbers for the first time since Jan. 22. The T reports that Green Line maintenance crews "have been working around the clock to restore service to pre-blizzard levels."
Commuter rail? Well, that's another matter.
- Green Line: 146 cars.
- Orange Line: 96 cars.
- Blue Line: 84 cars.
- Red Line: 178 cars.

So Bev was right after all,
So Bev was right after all, 30 days.
Perfect!
Just enough time for some of the pressure to be off Gov. Baker's blue-ribbon panel - if they ever actually even met.
Yup. The blue ribbon panel on
Yup. The blue ribbon panel on non daily riders.
Way off topic response here,
Way off topic response here,
but Adam what's going on with your site? Lately I've been getting audio files about weather ballons. It appears to be an android issue as it doesn't happen on my Windows PC.
Ugh, sorry
I keep trying to smack these things down and they keep popping up. So just on your Android phone? Dumb question: Are the fonts on the headlines of stories serif or sans-serif? I ask because that'll help me track down which template set (and so which ads) you're getting
Thanks for your response.
Thanks for your response. Sorry I can't answer your question about the fonts since I know practically nothing about recognizing one font from another. All I can tell you is I'm using Dolphin browser if that's of any help.
Serif
Serif fonts have little "tips" at the ends of the letters. Sans serif (Latin for without serif) end the letters with blunt edges.
I've gotten those audio and video files myself
from time to time. Happens when font is Sans Serif, and happens on both my iPhone (yes, I finally went to the dark side after my last phone cr^pped out) and my Windows PC (running Windows 7).
A sampling of commuter rail alerts
for the Haverhill line this week:
Switch Problems
Signal Problems
Delay due to mechanical issue
Delay due to previous mechanical issue
Freight Train Interference
Amtrak Train Interference
In other words, it sounds like things are indeed getting back to normal.
I'm pretty sure every single
I'm pretty sure every single one of those things happened this morning.
Yep
All those things have been daily occurrences this week.
I like the "delay due to
I like the "delay due to heavy ridership." Well you have heavy ridership bc you haven't put back all of the trains during high commute times. Idiots (a la Napoleon Dynamite:)
At least this week
they've managed not to use that one on the Haverhill line as of yet. Perhaps the alertmister's "Wheel of Torture" is malfunctioning.
welcome back to normal.
naturally, since the subway is now running at "normal levels", a disabled train turned JFK into an unpassable mass of people this morning. normal indeed.
it's fun to watch the board say "Alewife 1 min" for a good solid 15 minutes straight.
Yup normal
Normal police actions that delay trains for 30 minutes. Normal 200 people standing at Silver Line South Station platform while T jerk sends off a bus that is only 3/4 full.
Yup, the T is back to its normal level of failures. Just when I was getting used to its new normal.

That would be an insult to
the residents of the Island of Sodor.
Let's have some Olympics!
World class city: No. Not even close.
And if a Garth Brooks concert can cause so much trouble, people can't get taxis at the airport, and this sorry excuse for public transportation, I shudder to think how an additional million people will tax the system.
Amtrak at Porter Station
This is mostly off-topic and been happening forever but what's with Red Line announcements that you can switch to Amtrak service at Porter Station? At least not without transferring to another service first. It only started annoying me now for some reason.
Unlikely anyone gets off thinking they can grab an Amtrak but still seems stupid to make an announcement about a non-existent service.
And don't the announcements
And don't the announcements at South Station mention the Silver Line, but not Amtrak, the commuter rail, or the intercity bus terminal?
It's the T equivalent
of the sign for Franklin Park Zoo on Newbury Street.
You can get there from this station...by using it to get to another station. Duh.
My favorite
Is on the Green Line (well, all of the lines, but I notice it most on the Green) when they announce "Bus Connections" at every stop. Very helpful for those who don't really know or care where they're going but feel like it's time to switch to a bus.
Even better is on the B Line specifically
Where from Packard's Corner in to Kenmore it used to announce "Bus Connections" solely because the 57 parallels the route and makes all the same stops.
Mine's the E line/39, but yeah, same idea
..
They often announce bus
They often announce bus connections even at stations and times where there is no bus service (Charles/MGH; Alewife after 11 pm).
Orange Line point of order
96 cars is full service, but the line has 120 cars, with the extra 24 held in reserve. Are the other 24 functioning?
I know there has to be someone reading this who is in the know.
