The new normal: More problems on the Braintree line this afternoon

The T is warning of "moderate" delays on the Red Line to and from Braintree this afternoon, due to signal problems. Of course, Braintree has been having signal problems all week, including this morning, when a train left the station without the driver who had gotten out to deal with them.

T-response "You can't handle the Truth"

I found out a while back the Red Lion in Salem is closing for downsizing and renovations. That was about 2 blocks from the train station but that was where you could buy a train ticket to avoid the surcharges. I e-mailed the T weeks back asking if any other store would be taking up the torch or if they would be waiving the surcharge at that station. So far - weeks later - no response.

When I reported the ADA doors at this brand new station were without power it took almost 4 weeks for a reply. I mean... really...

Prediction... those new locomotives "chug" when they start out from a station. My friend who is a diesel mechanic says they should not "chug."

Hold on for the ride on that one.

Auditors say MBTA did not properly track fare money; T says it did

http://www.boston.com/metrodesk/2012/09/27/state-auditor-says-mbta-did-n...

and at least ten other stories that tell the story of how the MBTA mismanages money and crams truckloads of it into their pockets all the while crying poor and raising fares every few years.

To be fair, you can't really blame them. Since the Ts operating budget comes from skimming a quarter the Sales tax... and fares going to pay off the Big Dig. And a third of the operating budget skimmed off to pay for a private livery service for the elderly and disabled... which was only meant to be short term until buses and T stations came into compliance with the ADA (They've been at 98% for years now).

But if they fixed these issues, and tied budget to revenue, then politicians in Western Mass wouldn't hold the T in a stranglehold. And wouldn't be able to hold the T hostage for gravy (like requirements for building train cars in Western Mass).

Yeah, let's give the T more money right now. Because the latest bend-over-and-take it the T and their "private sector" partners just gave the public in the form of the GLX doubling in costs isn't enough; we should give them more money so they can find more inventive ways of wasting it.
