North Station jammed as trains don't move

Delays at North Station on commuter rail

Claire gives us the pigeon's eye view of a packed North Station around 6 p.m. as trains just sat there due to everything from them being superannuated to interference from Amtrak. Some delays reached 90 minutes.

Kelios has developed a very bad habit of arbitrarily cancelling trains for no legitimate reason. It is no coincidence that the 5:55 to Reading is routinely annulled.

Perhaps the MSM needs to give up their obsession with "critical" issues like deflated footballs and start taking a hard long look at the current state of our public transportation system.

And how much is due to stuff like 40 brand-new locomotives being delivered and having to be taken out of service for warranty work?

Keolis gets raves (supposedly) everywhere else, why not the T? I really have to wonder what is really going on behind the scenes along with inheriting a large mess when they took over the contract. Is it REALLY their fault or is something else going on.

Even a gourmet chef isn't going to succeed if all he's given is a pile of turds to work with...

When Keolis was announced as the MBTAs choice as her Commuter Rail contractor, Dr. Scott heaped praise, welcomed the change. Now suddenly Happy Scott and her Merry Band of Mirth Makers are under the microscope for poor performance, she has decided the take the low road by trashing Keolis to direct attention away from the Quincy Center passenger roast (brokenwindows) incident

You need to understand that only about 6 are in actual service, and that after some wheel bearings had to be replaced in an emergency fix.

The T accepted the 40 "technically" meaning they were completed and shipped from the manufacturer's property. The only reason that was done was because new federal laws require any locomotive shipped after January 1 to meet Tier-4 emissions standards. While that was initially planned (Tier-4) the design at Motive power could not get off the drawing board, so they had to settle for Tier-3 emissions standards.

So the rest of the locomotives are on various sidings in various locations (only some in MA) awaiting last-minute corrections and adjustments that would normally be done at the factory. Instead they are being done by other places under MP's direction.

Also 40-new locomotives DOES NOT MEAN MORE TRAINS. The plan is to phase in the new units and phase out the older locomotives that fail on a regular basis.

It's not. The T/Keolis has the general practice of canceling those short turns rather than leaving longer gaps on the outer parts of the line. It sucks that they wind up canceling anything, but makes sense to pull these trains when there's an equipment shortage. Yes, some Reading riders have to wait for the next train, which is then more crowded. But it's better, probably, than making Haverhill passengers wait an extra hour.

God, they're probably already over the monthly limit for cancellation/delays this month. Good lord.

Like MBCR didn't habitually cancel the Reading and Anderson short turns?

But not nearly as routinely as Kelois does.

This is just getting ridiculous now.
