The number to waste some of John Henry's money is 888-MY-GLOBE

Sure, I could send e-mail to Globe Direct about how their circulars keep winding up on our porch (this morning, lovingly placed underneath some pruning shears on our porch - wouldn't want it to blow away, eh?), but I've taken a fancy to calling 888-MY-GLOBE because at least that way I get to cost them some money for the privilege of ignoring all my previous e-mails and phone calls about how I don't want their circulars.

Yeah, there is the annoying fact you'll be put on hold for a couple minutes, but, hey, that's why God invented cell phones that turn into speaker phones when you flip them over.

You know, I could set up a modem to dial that number every minute, stay connected for 2 minutes, hang up, and repeat.

888's have a connect charge, and then a cost per minute. Do that a few hundred times an hour and it adds up

Of course, the issue is, 888's track the source number... and that's not good.

(but a good idea!!!)

considering how long it takes them to respond to requests to stop delivering the damn thing, I bet it would be a long time before they caught on, and by then your prank would have cost them a pretty penny.

Subcontracting vendors do delivey. From time to time 2 different subcontracting vendors will deliver duplicates along a street ! Opening the Savings Central leaflet of the Globe in the Savings Central packet, the advertisement for careers with a subcontracting vendor gives the tel no of that vendor.

Even better, advocate for better quality advertising leaflets and/or more savings coupons!

If somebody actually wants this, fine, knock yourself out and ask for two or three copies a week!

But we get the Sunday Globe, which is full of ads and coupons. We don't need more, we've made that clear to the Globe and they keep tossing these things on our porch (except this morning, as mentioned, the guy had to have actually come up on the porch to place the thing the way he did). When the lady I talked to this morning said it could take "two or three weeks" to stop delivery, I laughed and told her it's been at least six months now.

If you call from a home phone, dialing an 800 number costs them a penny. Call from a payphone, and it costs them a quarter.

I have to say that at this moment I can't think of where there still IS a payphone.

There's one outside of south station if you're walking towards the waterfront, but you'll probably catch something if you touch it

There's a pay phone downstairs on the red line at Park St. It actually has a dial tone and everything!

Pay phones still exist?

What's a pay phone?

I have found they will not respond to calls or emails to unsubscribe from GlobeDirect - however they DO quickly respond to complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau (http://www.bbb.org/).

I hadn't thought of that. I'll give them another couple of days, to see if the alleged supervisor that will allegedly be calling me actually does, and if not, file a complaint there.

I can't figure out whether this BBB complaint under Globe Direct is serious:

I have contacted Globe Direct several times to inform them that I am not receiving my Globe Direct that I am entitled to weekly on a regular basis.
On several occasions I have contacted the Globe Direct to let them know now that the woman who delivers to my neighborhood is not dwlivering to all of the houses she is assigned to. Globe Directs are delivered sporadically and I consider myself lucky if I receive one for the week. I have spoken to corporate several times and the branch manager once. They assured me they would take care of my issue and I continue to not receive Globe Directs weekly even though I was told I was entitled to. We are a close knit neighborhood and I am not the only one with this complaint. I am contacting BBB because I emailed corporate 3 weeks ago and received absolutely no response and I feel I should not have to waste so much time and energy to get something I am entitled to. Advertising agencies are paying you to deliver a product to our community and you are not doing that.

How do you kind folks handle the dog waste that turns up around your place?... wrappers from foods passersby leave, chewing gum, cigarettes, bird droppings, broken glass, etc.

Every Saturday morning I spend an hour cleaning my front lawn of trash.. there's so much to it.

I can stand all of that.. what I can't stand are broke glass bottles :( I've never understood why people in my 'hood feel the need to break glass everywhere (and then throw it on my lawn)

I'm looking forward to doing this tomorrow.. the first time this year. And boy I have a lot of trash to clean up :(

Of course, take the paper out first, stick your hand in, then invert the bag. That way, you grab the poop without actually touching it.

Of course, it would be better if those asshole dog owners did their jobs.

You could also use the bag your Globe Direct was delivered in, but the temptation to intermingle ads and poop might make it messy for you.

This is what I do with the bags. I recycle the paper (minus the MB flyer) and save the bags. Neighbor loves them for her dogs.

...and then mail that copy of the Globe Direct back to them...

Globe Direct is the only way to get the Market Basket flyer sent to my home, which is why I'm hesitant to call and have them stopped. Yes I could go to mydemoulas.net and look online but i like actually having the printed copy.

Anyone know if Market Basket will mail these out directly to consumers?

(amazingly enough I don't know.. I suppose I could ask at the courtesy booth tomorrow but maybe someone here will know)

I finally was able to get the JunkDirect to stop showing up on my porch, and a bunch of other crap like 4 different versions of the yellow pages, by using Catalog Choice (https://www.catalogchoice.org/)... ACTUALLY worked!! I haven't had any of the junk mail I listed on their site in over a year.

Shouldn't it be a special theme day?

The mattress ads are the worst part of the packet. Instead of useful information for selecting a mattress model there's deceptive come-ons that are bait and switch type promotions.
