Police hunt Braintree students for smashing Red Line windows in Boston

The Patriot Ledger reports Transit Police are looking for 10 to 15 Braintree High School students who apparently decided to celebrate a trip to the Garden to watch their classmates in a basketball game last night by "smashing windows in a Red Line train packed with around 200 students in Braintree uniforms."

Wait till Sunday when hundreds of thousands teens invade the city on St Patrick's Day combined with the school hockey tournaments at TD Garden will leave the Red Line in ruins.

I think the Great and General Court beat them to it, without so much as riding it.

Commit vandalism while wearing your uniform! Pissah!

Bunch of suburban thugs. Can we shut down the Braintree section of the red line again?

They were up in arms that they didn't want the red line to extend to Braintree because it was going to "bring crime" to the town. Despite the number of black mask clad men you see riding the train with a sack over their shoulder and a candelabra sticking out of the top I'm pretty sure that the South Shore Plaza has brought far more crime to the town.

I wonder how many of them are still around and if any of them appreciate the irony of this vandalism compared to their concerns.

Since the NIMBY's concerns were being voiced back in the late seventies (Braintree T station opened in 1980) I seriously doubt anyone is "appreciating the irony of this vandalism compared to their concerns".

is one of the standard responses in the NIMBY playbook. The sad thing is that, under the present system of environmental review that presumes a project proponent guilty until proven innocent, even totally baseless and nonsense claims like "OMG, crime will skyrocket if this is built" have to be investigated - wasting time and money.

nothing lowers the quality of life in the city like a bunch of suburban sports fans.

Move the Garden and Fenway to Foxoboro!

People break stuff to celebrate. Pats win the superbowl, so let's bust up somebodies car!

If these kids had spray-painted the train with the Braintree logo, it would be stupid, but at least I kind of get it.

Would have defeated the purpose.

Nice job Wamps, keep up that stellar mediocre rep you have always had. My son played against their 8th grade BB team on Sunday. Don't expect a great deal of improvement over the coming years in terms of behavior from them based on the talking back to the refs.

We need more law enforcement officers especially during school hours on the T especially the Red Line's Braintree Branch. They don't know any better and cause delays for their unruly actions of their obnoxious behavior. I see some who can't pay the small $1.05 fare and is that the reason why the rest of us are paying more for less than expected service. People who play roulette with the train doors rushing against the doors and jamming them is not good. Doors won't close and then the train is taken out of service. Simply wait for the next train.
