Police: Luck of the Irish protected track-walking dumbass at Andrew last night

Guy walking across tracks at Andrew station in South Boston

Surveillance photos via TPD.

UPDATE, 3:15 p.m., Tuesday: Finnerty found, shows up in court, has case continued without a finding pending three-month period.

UPDATE: Warrant issued for his arrest after he failed to show up at his arraignment, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Transit Police report arresting a Braintree lad who, on finding himself on the inbound platform at Andrew last night, allegedly thought the best way to get to the outbound platform would be via the train tracks.

Due to the foolish and dangerous actions of this individual train travel had to be suspended in both directions and electricity to the tracks was shut off.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, Patrick Finnerty, 19, of Braintree, may be alive only because the driver of an incoming train had good reflexes and managed to perform an emergency stop of the train, around 7:45 p.m.

Police say officers found Finnerty sitting on a bench on the outbound platform.

Finnerty informed the officers he was just trying to get to the other side.

Police say Finnerty was arrested on a charge of trespassing.

Innocent, etc.

What's in the South Boston beer supply?

Calling the swill sold in South Boston during the parade "beer" is an insult to a 5,000+ year old beverage!

The Guinness was fine, but at nineteen, I'll bet he wasn't getting any. Say what you want, but they card like hell.

You get unruly thugs running around like they own the place. And what kind of parent gives their hellspawn a made up name like "patrik"?

Due to the foolish and dangerous actions of this individual ...

Foolish, dangerous, lazy, selfish, unthinking, reckless

Got any more?

It's heartening to think that this occurred just two hours after the Transit Police were called to the fatality of another trespasser at Cabot Yards. Such a difficult job to do, and most often it all happens behind the scenes. There's a lot of things wrong with the , but I'm very grateful for the Transit Police!

...is going on in Braintree these days? Knocking out T windows, stabbing at Celtics games and now this? Kids, if you can't handle life and act like adults in the Big City, stay home, will ya?

He bummed a cigarette off my friend, and heard the speaker "the next Alewife train..." realized he was on the wrong side, so he took a shortcut. He stepped on the third rail and got a minor jolt. Shocked (lol) that the third rail would betray him, he paused for a second, then started climbing the barrier to get to the other side. He got to the top, dropped the cigarette, FELL off the barrier to retrieve it, and was just seconds from being smashed by a train. He managed to climb back up and escape to the other side. Dumb luck, I'm glad he's O.K.
Didn't think he would do it, he looked over at me and had this dumb grin as if he was joking, then he went for it.

I was there as well, the train definitely did not stop in time so he is very lucky to be alive. He took forever to cross over, was more interested in showing off than getting to the other side. so dumb, glad they arrested him

...while this man still roams free, free traverse across any tracks he pleases.

Though now that I'm looking at the video, he does have more than a passing resemblance of the guy who got collared, and it does seem to be him MO...

Another update: Braintree Police tweeted they have him in custody for his failure to show up for arraignment.

This was dumb and all, but I think a slap on the wrist is in order. But lordy, if all the foolish things I did in my youth had been videoed I'd still be in jail. Not so many years ago this guy would have gotten away with it and lived another day without being arrested.

How about if every person on that train, who no doubt got slammed into their neighbors when the conductor had to stand on the brakes, gets to give him a good hard kick in the ass?

Your idea works too.

If he was arrested at Andrew Station, then why was his arraignment in Braintree?

The way I read that was that the Braintree cops had him in custody for skipping his arraignment in Boston.

Also saw Adam's latest post, which clarified the matter.
