Police: Dorchester woman finds burglar in her house, locks him in a bedroom

Boston Police report arresting a man they say broke into a home on Greenwich Street in Dorchester early this morning only to fall asleep on a comfy couch after the homeowner locked him into her son's room.

According to police, after using a chain and padlock around 4 a.m. to ensure the burglar didn't go anywhere, the elderly homeowner went down to District C-11 to report the unwanted presence:

Officers responded to the location, approached the rear door, knocked loudly, and announced their presence. Upon receiving no response, officers utilized the keys to the padlock and opened the door. Officers located the male suspect who was lying on a couch and appeared to be sleeping. Officers attempted to wake the suspect several times to no avail. Finally the suspect awakened, jumped up and began shouting at the officers. After a brief struggle, officers were able to subdue the suspect.

Rene Nguyen, 27, of Dorchester was charged with breaking and entering in the night time and resisting arrest.

Innocent, etc.

Ed. note: This was a different elderly Greenwich Street resident than the one who died this morning when her house caught fire.

It might've been alcohol, however, because excessive amounts of alcohol are more likely to make one aggressive than opiates, which have an even more intense "down" high and depress the central nervous system even more than alcohol does.

And they want the roommates to stay out of their rooms when they aren't home?

My last roommate and I had hook-and-eyes on the outside of all of the apartment doors for a similar reason: the doors didn't latch shut properly and we needed to keep the very nosy dog out. I'm sure if you replace "nosy dog" with "shady roommate" the logic stands.

Good for her for locking the burglar up in her son's bedroom, in order to prevent him from getting free, reporting it to the police, and then having the cops come to her house and apprehend him!

Hats off to her!
