Almost a "bingo" in a compact tirade. Too bad they didn't misspell any words.

I wonder when the writer is booking a trip to Europe? Dropping anyone off in the Caribbean or Africa?

Maybe the writer had too many glasses in Bunrattys........

You know who wrote it? That could have been done by anybody, including (most likely) a trouble maker troll. Especially in Boston, with our large college student population.

And, since when has poorly scrawled graffiti in Allston or anywhere become newsworthy? Are you trying to incite tension? If so, why? Is this connected to all the BLM faux racist incidents?

The US takes in more legal and illegal immigrants per year than any other nation on Earth. We do far more than our share, and people who call themselves 'progressive' have zero basis fir complaints on this issue.

Owning a house is expensive nowadays, gotta manufacture some outrage to pay all those bills.

This looks like the rants and ravings of somebody who is suffering from poor mental hygiene. Not sure why this should be dignified by a UHub post.

on both sides of the aisle this year. Didn't you get the memo? If you hadn't noticed, Uhub's bread and butter has been scaremongering about those evil bike-eating motorists. Today its racist nutjobs. Tomorrow it might even be socialists! Who knows what the future may bring?

racist messages right now are created by 'activists'. There are a lot of really dumb activists doing really dumb things right now, including this kind of thing.

I love your logic. Why bother with Occam's Razor when you can just smear people you disagree with!

going around lately. Xenophobia existed for hundreds of years in the far east and exists globally. Its a basic human survival trait to be less trusting of those who are dissimilar. Wealthy middle-eastern countries won't take Syrian refugees, so I don't get all the self-flagellation over it here.

So you only want the US to do things Middle Eastern countries are doing? Where's the usual rightwing nut job self-flagellation over American Exceptionalism?!

is this racist or xenophobic? And is this some concerted effort to harass foreigners or some drunken asshole writing something stupid on a sign? And do people on UHub secretly like seeing these things so they can get outraged and post about it?

up
Voting closed 0

Always "just a joke" or "just some drunken asshole". Never "lack of self control meets festering hatred".

up
Voting closed 0

Well I'm very happy you have something to be outraged about, because it's obvious from your hourly postings that you subsist on being internet angry and then posting about it on UHub. And some weirdo scrawling something barely legible in pen on a paper attached to a street sign is stupid and offensive. But to make a click bait post about it on Univeral Hub and label it "Racist in Allston" just takes away from the real instances of racism that exist around here.

Waiting on your excuse du jour for the dude who shot up your homeland last night. Since he isn't one of "those" people.

up
Voting closed 0

Do you think the guy who shot up the lot last night was really a white man of European decent? If so, you're either disconnected from reality or don't know the area or, most likely, both. Describing him as a "white man" is perfect for UHub, but white hispanic is the more accurate description.

up
Voting closed 0

Did you read the description of who they are looking for? It is on the main page of UHub!

Possible shooter described as a white man in a black hoodie and blue jeans, who limped to a car that sped off.

Wow. You are even more of a dumbass racist than I thought.

Was it one of your friends? Do tell us that he was just joking or being drunk and stupid?

Or do you have some other excuse beloved of naive people who never leave their tiny enclave and know so very little about the world that they would be so foolish as to ask if "keep America white" is racist or "foreigners go home" is xenophobic!

Name calling ("dumb ass") is against your rules. Please enforce.

The cops try to be very, very specific in giving out descriptions of suspects - you don't want to be arresting the wrong person, after all. When they're describing skin color on the radio, they don't just say "black," they say "light-skinned" or "dark-skinned" if they know it (along with any hair and clothing descriptions, tattoos, etc.) Same with Hispanic - they will describe a suspect's skin tone as well. When they describe somebody as just "white," which they were doing last night, they mean exactly what you think they mean.

Vitally important caveat: The descriptions given out last night were, of course, based on initial interviews with witnesses. They could be wrong (the initial description of the two masked salad stealers at Savin Hill was that both were black; turns out one was, the other wasn't); yes, the suspect could still wind up being white and Hispanic. That's why I included the word "possible." But let's be clear that the police were NOT including Hispanic in their descriptions last night.

Fun Facts ,
From Gerry Burke's story , ( http://www.jphs.org/20thcentury/doyles-history-talk-by-gerry-burke.html )
''In the 50’s everyone just sailed along. The 50’s were a good time to be living in Jamaica Plain as some of those here tonight know. Graduating from Jamaica Plain High School in 1958 we are now looking forward to our fiftieth reunion coming up in 2008!

The early 60’s saw the young Irish Catholic kid from Boston, John F. Kennedy, elected President of the United States and everything was fine. Then when he was killed things just went all to hell in a handbasket as far as I’m concerned and this neighborhood began to change fast! It had started changing in the late 50’s as the boys and girls were getting out. Pushed on by the riots in ‘67 it was tough down here. This neighborhood from Forest Hills to Eggelston Square was really no-man’s land by the early 70’s; and, as many of you know, it wasn’t easy.

Some of you may recall that in 1964 three guys came in and announced it was a hold-up. They put a bullet in the wall over there near the Paul Revere picture. That isn’t the moon you see in the picture, it’s where the bullet hole was patched with plaster. They then pistol-whipped Tom McDonough, the bartender, and they ran out the door, not knowing that Billy Doyle, a former policeman, was crouched down behind the counter. Doyle then came out, opened the window, and shot one of the robbers four times, killing him. He then went outside and relieved him of his money. He then called Station 13 and they took the robber to City Hospital, but he was dead. Bill Doyle had a well-deserved reputation for being very frugal and the story goes that they were the only four shots he ever gave away for ‘nuthin. ''

I certainly wouldn't dismiss this act as mere tomfoolery, drunken or otherwise. (And denounce it regardless of motive.)

But it seems like some big assumptions are being made on your part.

This could easily have been written by someone in complete control and with no hatred at work whatsoever. I can think of myriad scenarios where this could be the case..

How are your assumptions of motive any more valid than those you dismiss?

Or

3. you are truly intellectually deficient

Totally valid for UHub. Basically, someone decided to post a small defense of the president and of the importance of accepting refugees, and someone else didn't just respond, but actually wrote over it with racist (yes, "Keep America WHITE" is racist, and I can't imagine how anyone would think otherwise), xenophobic blurp. This is notable because the corner of Harvard and Allston is the center of probably the most diverse part of Allston.

While the flyer may be, well, kind of useless-- either you agree or you don't, and posting it on the community board probably changed zero minds-- the response was notable in that it is angry, is written as if the vandal does not even want the flyer to be read, and is racist in a diverse area. The person who put up the original flyer must have felt some reason it had to be said in Allston. As a reflection of neighborhood tension, it is a story.

One of the things that makes Allston unique are the bulletin boards - they're kind of untamed little beasties that really give you a flavor of the neighborhood and can actually be interesting and even fun to look at (I love the guy who's been posting his pen drawings on them for years - I think that's a bit of his work in the lower left of the photo). In contrast, West Roxbury has one outdoor bulletin board (next to the post office), and it's encased in glass and you have to go down to West Roxbury Main Streets to have them approve and post your flier. It's sterile and forbidding and the last time I looked, nothing new had been posted on it in months.

So, yeah, given the role these bulletin boards play in reflecting the neighborhood, I did think this was a bit more interesting than some scrawl in a men's room stall. Doesn't mean I think Allston's gone full-bore racist or that there's some Nazi cell in Allston, but it's still worth noting.

It's pretty telling how many people think this isn't a problem. Maybe some of you even agree with the message. Newsflash: ignoring racism ("keep America white") and/or xenophobia ("foreigners out") doesn't mean they don't exist. Pointing it out isn't clickbait, unless you're in a position not to care. Which evidently, most of you are. It would be "nice" if it were some drunken nobody who scrawled this message, but who actually knows that? How do you know it isn't the next peson to stomp a homeless man nearly to death, simply for not being white? Or to shoot up a church of praying black people? Or to attack a Sikh man for wearing a turban?

I'm disappointed in myself for reading these fucking comments after I promised myself not to. I can go over to the Herald for this bullshit.

its a problem but you're way overreacting here. should it also be reported every time somebody shouts a slur in the street though? its a solitary piece of paper in a window that has largely unintelligible scribble on it.

is it unfortunate and indicative of an larger issue? sure.

i would suggest writing an article about something that A) people can actually read B) doesnt have a really provocative title and C) dont justify a piece of paper in a window by saying allston has a culture of bulletin boards

yeah, it might, holy shit that is a stretch. businesses have flyers in their windows fucking everywhere.

point is, suggesting that people agree with the content because they found this article sensationalist is unfair, immature, and lacking sound judgement. my parents came here on a boat so unless i'm feeling particularly self loathing i certainly harbor (lol boat pun!) no ill will towards immigrants. but i'll tell you what, this article certainly didn't do anything for me.

i think a lot of people here might agree that if the article was more substantive there would be a lot less eye rolling about it. one can take issue with the subject matter of an article AS WELL as the way in which that material (or lack thereof) is presented.

i hope this helps with your seemingly black and white narrative of the world

Stupid is as stupid does. Racism is stupid. Racists are stupid.

That said, the concern about Syrian refugees is of a different nature than racism or xenophobia. Not many of the knee-jerk liberals on this site can understand that, but there is absolutely no way to know who these people are. Syria is worse than a "failed state." Assad controls the information on who people are. He could easily feed us information that a certain group of ISIS soldiers are downtrodden souls innocently trying to save their lives. He wants them out, and he sees the US as a major threat.

I'm not actually worried about my own safety or my family. I understand the unlikely chance that when there is a terrorist action committed by Syrian refugees that it is highly unlikely it will directly touch me or those I care about. That said, am I not to care about those innocents who are slaughtered? As a citizen, can I not voice my concern that this administration is incompetent at managing pretty much anything (VA, Obamacare Web Site, IRS, State Dept email, Secret Service, Fast & Furious, Post Office, and on and on). How can anyone actually trust the management ability of this administration.

Just because you hate the Republicans doesn't actually mean you have to trust this failure of a President.
