Roslindale marches through the crisp, clear day

Roslindale residents bundled up a little more today as they lined the route of the 40th annual Roslindale Day Parade.

Fortunately, there was no precip, so these dancers were only metaphorically "singin' in the rain:"

And these guys didn't need their helmets to stave off moisture:

All that marching can make a guy pretty thor:

There were Shriners, of course:

Marching bands:

Dance-school students:

And lots of American flags:

There were old cars:

And even older modes of transportation:

The Boston Latin School Junior Classical League, which built the chariot, was separated by some distance from the Boston Latin Academy Classics Club:

One car showed its owner's neighborhood pride:

Plenty of politicians marched, from Mayor Walsh to everybody's favorite governor's councilor, Robert Jubinville:

And it just wouldn't be a parade in New England without some musket fire:

to improve turn-out in all kinds of events today. The roads were jammed. "Sure honey, let's go do something today, that's a great idea!"

It's the time of year. There are not too many outdoor events scheduled in January and February for the same reason. I'm also guessing that a lot of people are like me and don't want to be sweating out a random parade or 5K in the midday heat of July or August. So, everything outdoorsy happens in April or late September/early October. To give a personal example, I ran a 5K that went along the parade course last Sunday. I had to miss a 5K that precedes the Allston Parade since there was no way I could get from point A to point B in time.

Fall foliage is starting up. Enjoy your Sunday drives in the country.

Would you believe me if I told you that Jubinville is not my favorite governor's councilor?

For me, they're all tied...for last place.

They are therefore all tied for first place.

I picture Adam riding in a phaeton pulled by a team of anon commenters while the Zak works the crowd handing the delighted children maps showing the borders of various city council territories across the city.

The Roslindale Parade Committee does a fantastic job. I hope Andrew Cousino runs for State Representative in 2016!
