Roslindale noises, early morning edition

UPDATE: A Boston Fire Department spokesman says a transformer on a utility pole blew on Durnell Avenue.

Around 5:30 a.m., this time:

In our house up on Grew Hill, the lights flickered for maybe a second, then I heard the noise, sounded sort of like sounded like a loud "BZZZZT." Jessica Burko reports:

Weird noise then all our power went out for about 30 seconds then came back on.

Christopher Power reports hearing it in the Arboretum. It was "a REALLY weird sound," he adds.

A resident of Durnell Avenue just south of Rozzie Square adds:

It sounded like one of those police "sound canons" went off between 530 and 6am.

I'm just off Durnell in Roslindale too. Lost power for a minute just after the noise. Woke me up. I figured a transformer blew. Around 7am I saw an electrical utility truck working on a pole on Durnell.

Woke me up too.....5:35 on Malverna Rd. Power off for about 8 seconds then the loud BZZZZZZ. Five minutes later there were fire trucks speeding around. I thought the transformer across the street blew. But there isn't one across the street. Those were pretty loud electrons.
