Scientologists moving to Allston

The Globe reports the church has purchased a building on Lincoln Street (on the Allston end; you Lincoln Bar and Grill fans can relax), following their failure to raise enough money to renovate that old hotel in the South End.

Wonder what they'll put on the sidewalk for Allston Christmas.

Corner of Lincoln and Everett. I bet they'll use their evil rays to peer into cars wizzing past on the Pike.

Hall said the church had borrowed some of the $15 million from the International Church of Scientology, which typically requires its regional chapters to be financially independent.

"Financially independent." That would be one way of putting it. Not tough to keep your books in black ink when your devout are forking over hundreds of thousands of dollars to learn of the great feats of Lord Xenu.

And when you can buy huge chunks of property and pay $0 of property tax because you claim to believe in sky fairies or something like that.

http://www.hbo.com/documentaries/going-clear is a great documentary on the Scientologists. It's bizarre - kind of like a hybrid of Amway and your garden-variety cult-style religion.

Makes sense. The demographics of Allston are probably a lot better for their recruiting than the South End, at this point.

How many gay celebrities are there in Allston, or for that matter, the South End?

Scientology looooves college students, out on their own for the first time and usually lacking enough life experience/critical thinking skills/confidence to resist a cult. They pretty much stock up all their servants for SeaOrg from young people.

It's a shame The Process Church of the Final Judgement isn't still operating in Cambridge. They could have a dance off.
