Somebody may be trying to kill the trees of Brighton Center again

Tree limbs being cut in Brighton Center

Joseph Rizza made bail on July 31 and was released, the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department reports. He is scheduled for trial on Aug. 26 in Brighton Municipal Court.

Fliers appeared on cars parked on Peaceable and Winship streets today: The tree ninja is back, and he's up to his old tricks - just a month after the city planted new trees there for the first time in years, and four months after alleged Brighton tree ninja Joseph Rizza was ordered held without bail after being arrested in a tree stakeout.

Complete flier.

Ed. note: I learned about the fliers from a 311 complaint from somebody who was upset not about the new tree damage - but about the "litter" caused by the fliers.

I am not unfamiliar with the priors, and am certainly down with the idea of halt-at-once, but: is it the same modus opera-and-I?

Only one tree at once, this time a branch broken, not trunk-bark stripping.

Perhaps an ultra-vigilant citizen crying a little too much wolf?

Or a meta/satire? ...or is that too far......

But I'll try to find out in the AM if the original guy is still in custody.

"Modus opera-and-I?" Is this something the young people are saying these days?

Now THAT is quite the eggcorn.

I wrote it as an apple & pairs, not an egg-horn.

We've had a few storms come through lately that stripped branches out of healthy trees around the area. I wouldn't be surprised if newly planted trees might not have gotten everything "in line" with their new digs (wind direction, intensity, etc.) and lost a few limbs unexpectedly.

I would think a united TLF could do something about this.

They should look into the thug wannabes that attend the Lyons pilot high school in Brighton and the associated summer programs. These teens I see going up my street ripping off leaves, throwing empty soda cans and bags of cheetos all over the sidewalk and hitting bikes with baseball bats. Happens every day and I alerted D-14 before school got out to keep an eye out for them.

They obviously don't respect the neighbourhood so killing trees would be par for the course.

...the picture looked like the damage (if it was intentional) took some effort -- it wasn't a matter of just reaching out and grabbing a low-hanging branch. In that case, I think I'd look to someone with a known history of deliberately targeting and vandalizing trees in that neighborhood, rather than to careless kids walking by.

Your choice of wording referring to the teenager is awesome! There are already too many stereotypes for them and I don't think labeling them thugs is EVER OKAY

So, a person who vandalizes is not a thug, but a choir boy? Perhaps you will be the next victim, then you can serve the perpetrator tea and biscuits.

Must have been one of those "more intense" hurricanes predicted for the East Coast that hasn't seen a hurricane in years.
