South End stabbing victim is Dorchester parish music director

The Dorchester Reporter reports the man stabbed repeatedly in his South End apartment yesterday is Sheldon Lee, music director at Blessed Mother Teresa parish in Dorchester.
The man charged with stabbing him, his neighbor, David Eng, was held in lieu of $100,000 bail following his arraignment today in Boston Municipal Court, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Wow. Purse snatch in Savin Hill and people here go what do you expect. Attempted homicide in the South End, nary a pip. I thought the South End was supposed to be safe?

I hope Mr. Lee, who from all accounts is a very, very decent person, has a full recovery.

Not purse snatching. But, as you have said, this could happen anywhere - unfortunately, criminal trash isn't cemented to the ground and can show up anywhere in the city. More likely than not, the perps were not from the area.

Sheldon Lee is a wonderful man who would not harm a soul. His attempted murder is an isolated incident by a deranged neighbor.

I know Sheldon Lee and he is a very decent human being who wouldn't hurt a fly.
What worries me is that perhaps his "deranged neighbor" is typical of the most recent wave of South Enders - entitled a-holes who think the world revolves around them. Perhaps the neighbor was making too much noise or littering or a myriad of other things that the recent wave of South Enders do without thinking about anyone else but themselves. I've been threatened a couple of time for complaining about noise at 3am or dog poo in the hallways in my very fancy condo building. Or maybe the neighbor didn't like he fact that Mr. Lee is an unmarried gentleman of a certain age. Either way, I'm not proud of this neighborhood anymore.

You're--let me get this straight--not proud of the South End anymore because one (apparently very nice) middle-aged guy got stabbed by his middle-aged next-door neighbor who was apparently off his rocker? We have no idea what happened here though it sounds as if there were concerns about Eng's mental health before this happened, but you've already decided that it was either about class warfare or homophobia? Oy.
Hoping Mr. Lee makes a full and speedy recovery.

The public record shows that both ::alleged:: attacker and victim have lived in that building since it was first converted to condos in 1991. I guess it's possible the ::alleged:: attacker didn't become entitled until recently, though.

I lived in the South End from 2004 until just recently. There were two people in my 4-unit Brownstone who had lived there since the 80s. They had animosity between them for decades, stemming from the fact that one of them was seriously unbalanced. The guy was on medication periodically, which improved his behavior for short spurts, but basically, he would come up with these weird obsessions to blame on the other folks, an older couple. He had a weird, emotional entitlement when it came to them, like they owed him all kinds of bizarre considerations.
This guy was from a good family with a bit of money, I believe, but he frequently didn't have a steady job and as an "entrepreneur" with alot of education but not many prospects.
The point of all this being that living in those Brownstones together puts all sorts of people in close contact and mental illness can strike anyone, especially as they get older and other family or support systems drift away or other life or financial pressures hit. It's not a question of being wealthy or poor or a minority or majority, it's just really bad luck for all involved and I hope Mr. Lees has a speedy recovery.
