Can we trade?
Two hungry teen boy shovelers for some of that?
I'll be rigt over
Looks delicious. I know Steve, but seem to have misplaced my invite. :(
was wondering
if anyone actually was making French Toast today. Glad to see visual proof!
Real maple syrup, too
That's a nice touch. But does anyone know where I can get Grade B syrup around here at retail? I usually order it online. (It's better than the Grade A stuff, one of those Iceland/Greenland switcheroos.)
Trader Joes?
They used to have some grade B, as did Costco, but you have to buy a sizeable jug.
I love Grade B - I originally bought it because it was cheaper and got hooked on how wonderful and dense and rich it was. Too bad that secret got out.
Trader Joe's in Coolidge
Trader Joe's in Coolidge Corner had it last time I wanted any.
No french toast here, but I'm making soup stock and my cat thought she wanted to go swimming in the stock pot. I thought she didn't.
Harvest in Cambridge!
It's where I get my stockin'-up Grade B whenever I go back to Boston to visit.. where I live maple syrup is an uncommon imported product and exorbitantly priced, so its for decoration eye candy most of the time and to enjoy in small quantities only when appropriate pancake conditions permit.
Might just break it open sometime today. In solidarity with you all, of course. Yes, for solidarity purposes, that's it.
Grade B maple syrup designation going away
Don't know if the French Toast Alert System needs to be updated over it, but apparently local producers are moving to a new classification system that conforms more closely to international labeling standards, says the Globe.
lovely
That looks great! You gotta keep your energy up in the snowbunker.
I was thinking about sharing this, but you've inspired me-- we made the King Arthur Flour yeast waffle batter last night, and they have been AMAZING this morning. My first time making yeast waffles from scratch, very easy, totally worth thinking ahead:

(Per the comments, since I like crispy waffles, I swapped oil for 1/3 of the butter. I used dark brown sugar as the sweetener.)
Feed me
This looks fantastic. Love the wine bottles in the background. Was that from the night before? I'm on my way over.
I had Pancakes
Yes I know.. its a French Toast Alert.. but I wanted pancakes.
Best.Invention.Ever: Complete Pancake Mix.. just add water. Good for all emergencies!
Right?!
We got some just-add-water pancake mix from Trader Joe's. It was perfect for lazy people who haven't grocery shopped recently.
Then the next time we got a different flavor of their pancake mix, went to make it, and found that it required eggs and milk. Um, flour and baking powder and spices or whatever is not a mix. Doesn't save time, still requires me to have perishables on hand, takes up cabinet space.
Suggestion
Instead of the complete mix, get one that needs milk, eggs, and butter and has malted powder in it.
I like Carbon's myself.
